Tuesday 31 July 2012

tuesday, kosha and a chance meeting, the end

1 Tuesday begins with bright sunshine and hot coffee out on the patio.
2 Kosha weaves her way around all the chairs and flowerpots rubbing herself against each piece to mark her territory. It's hot and she's shedding still so every now and then I spot little tufts of fur.
3 Evening walks bring out all sorts of neighbours. I meet John and Cy who live around the corner. They give me lots of information on trails to hike and bike up behind our home and invite me to drop by for a visit anytime.
4 I'm happy to see the end of this July.

Monday 30 July 2012

a bit more time, kitty and holiday

1 I've rescheduled my final exam to the end of August. With all the conflict in my life it seemed like the right thing to do. It's all good. Now I can study a little bit more.

2 Our cat Kosha spends the afternoon outside with me. As I pull weeds she rolls around on the grass, spooks herself, jumps a foot straight up and then shoots herself under the grape leaves stalking me.

3 He wants to have some fun he says. So we start a mini discussion on places we'd like to holiday. Costa Rica, Cuba and Cancun,  Iceland and Portugal have come up. Any and all suggestions/recommendations are welcome!

Sunday 29 July 2012

market, mmm and working

1 The farmer's market is a mix of crafts, foods, teas, and music. How great for our little community to have this every Sunday!
2 Fresh beet tops, steamed and drizzled with a little butter.
3 Working hard to get my leg and stomach stronger so I have a better chance at succeeding at C25K (couch to 5 km running program)

Saturday 28 July 2012

medicine, guilt free and up

1 Strange bites that have blistered leave me feeling frustrated but grateful for Benadryl. ugh

2 A good book in the sunshine works wonders for my spirit. I studied earlier so I don't feel guilty reading a fun frivolous book.

3 He's a bit down in the dumps. Time goes so slowly for him at work camp. He hears words of encouragement and eventually I hear a smile in his voice.

Friday 27 July 2012

cleaned up, squirrely and for one day only

1 It feels good to get the leaf blower out and clean off the patios and driveway. It is neat as a pin but with one wind it'll have pine needles again.
2 I love to hear the squirrels in the trees talking to each other but it makes the cat crazy. I wonder if she'll catch one like last year.
3 I love evergreen magnolias. The blooms only last for one day but they are spectacular!

Thursday 26 July 2012

Wednesday 25 July 2012

time, papers and short

1 I decided to take some time to myself this August. No doubt I won't be going back to my old job. It's time to move on.

2 I find the paperwork we need for our tax review. Thankfully it's right where I thought it might be.

3 A quick walk with a friend and a short chat. Next week we might go to a yoga class together. We'll see.

Tuesday 24 July 2012

gone, doors and family love

1 It's interesting how people can say one thing one day and another the next. Bottom line at work is money and as she puts it to me "you're the casualty'. I'm glad to walk out the door.

2 They say when one door closes another opens. I'm counting on it.

3 She says to me, ' Tell me who to thank for letting you go, so I can thank them for bringing you back to us'. He says to me, 'I heard you had a bad day mom. Would you like to come stay with us for a while?' And he says, 'Try to leave amicably even if they shaft/insult you.'  I am so very thankful for my family.

Monday 23 July 2012

errands, papers and nearby

1 It's an errand day. I go here and there making sure all the items on my list are crossed off.

2 I find the paperwork that I really needed. It's a relief to know I won't have to contact the lawyers and pay for them to go into their archived files in storage.

3 My friend calls and shares her day with me. Even though we're far away geographically she still makes it feel likes she's just down the street.

Sunday 22 July 2012

skies, red and okay

1 A rainy day that smells heavenly. The berries, grapes and gardens are thirsty and welcome the nectar from the sky.

2 Eating raspberries right off of the plants. The warm berries melt in my mouth making my lips red.

3 Talking to my brother and knowing he's okay by his tone and his words.

Saturday 21 July 2012

done, fun and purple

1 The bulk of the day is spent sorting and organizing the files in my desk. It's a big job but was necessary. I'm always happy to get that chore over with.
2 I laugh at myself when I realize how much fun I get out of using the label maker!
3 We found some hydrangea fertilizer this spring and wow did it ever enhance the colour of our bush. Love this shade of purple!

Friday 20 July 2012

gadget, stalker and sleep

1 We install a new gadget into the car. It's an auxiliary plug in for my iPhone. I turn the switch, plug in the phone, chose an album or two and it automatically goes to a programmed radio station and ta da! I have tunes!

2 He calls while I'm at the clinic getting my bee venom injection. He's tracking me on Google Latitude and he teases me that he can see where I am sitting!   I have my own private stalker!

3 The venom causes me to become very sleepy. I head to bed and sleep for 10 hours! Sleep, healing sleep.

Thursday 19 July 2012

sunny day, the same and home

1 It's a warm and muggy day but no one is complaining because we can see and feel the sun.

2 I'm missing my walks at work these past few days so after work I do a quick walk about the neighbourhood. Not much changes around here. I like that.

3 My home welcomes me every time I am away. I like how much it feels like home now. It took a while but I am home.

Wednesday 18 July 2012

postponed, groovin' and cold be gone!

1 The move to our new building was to happen this coming week but when I get to work today they tell me it's been delayed for a month. We can pack at a more reasonable pace now..can't we?
2 I spend the day in the filing room organizing and separating files that will be archived. It's a tiny room but with the doors closed I can turn on some Stones and disappear into the music.
3 He says he had a good sleep and is feeling much better today. I think it's because he's back on his night shift sleep schedule and his cold is finally going away.

Tuesday 17 July 2012

a few more, silly and success

1 He could go through security early but instead he checks his bag and comes back out so we can have a few more minutes together.

2  There are three security workers waiting for him to come through to the departure lounge. He's the last one still to go through. So we stand behind a large cement post and he kisses me deeply. We giggle at our silliness.

3 I stand on the ladder outside our bedroom window and manage to get the screens back in place. It's not exactly as it should be but they're in place so no more mosquitoes. Bonus...no injuries! Let's just say, I'm a little accident prone so this is VERY good!

Monday 16 July 2012

well, short and one

1 Studying is going very well. One chapter left and one assignment complete, one to go. Final exam is July 30.

2 The house is hotter tonight, but is cooling quickly. We go out for dinner and don't like leaving the windows open, well not the bigger ones. If a crook can climb through the smaller ones they will have to be very short!

3 One more sleep and he is gone again. Time has gone by so fast.

Sunday 15 July 2012

funny, day trip and too high

1 It hilarious to watch him killing mosquitoes. Oh how he loves doing it though with his battery powered bug killing raquet. It reminds me of the skit from Monty Python.Mosquito Hunting
2 Our trip to Salt Spring island is very enjoyable. We visit some craft places, sheep farm, cheese farm, enjoy lunch and dinner and then head home to talk about all the fun things we did and saw.
3 Mount Maxwell was so high we were above the clouds! No photo because it was all just a sea of cloud. It will be fun to go back on a sunny cloud free day and see the spectacular view....or so they say!

Saturday 14 July 2012

knickers, crazy and planners

1 I get my knickers in a knot today. Just feeling antsy waiting for him. Eventually we work on something together and that feeling dissipates. Whew!

2 He has a crazed look on his face when I take his picture. After all he's only chopped and stacked two cords of wood.

3 We make some plans for an outing tomorrow. I'm really excited because I've never visited one of the smaller gulf islands. Yay for adventures.

Friday 13 July 2012

trees, quickness and as luck would have it

1 We spend part of the morning looking at the trees that must come down. The arbutus have a blight which more than likely will kill some of our older trees. We focus on saving the young ones and planning where some new trees  perhaps dogwoods might find homes.
2 An afternoon of appointments and errands leaves him sleeping in the car while I do the running around. I'm quick today.
3 She sends me a card and a few goodies in it. I'm so very lucky to have such a dear friend as G.

Thursday 12 July 2012

sleep patterns, quiet and tea please

1 I'm used to sleeping alone. I toss and turn most of the night getting  used to his sounds and movements. In the morning I manage to sleep in and get a wee bit more than nothing.

2 The hummingbirds are making their way back to the feeders. They are so skittish we must sit extra still.

3 He's still not well but sleep will help. How rotten to be away working so hard and then have no energy to do anything fun. I take him some tea with honey.

Wednesday 11 July 2012

waiting, feast and happy enough

1 Wednesday is a long day at work mostly because I am anticipating his arrival. I try not to be impatient and focus on the tasks at hand.

2 Our lunch is provided today as part of a working lunch. We feast on salads and sandwiches with iced tea.

3 He's happy to be home. Even though he's sick with a cold, he still smiles his way through it all.

Tuesday 10 July 2012

walking, grilling and creating

Happiest of birthday wishes to my sister today... much love to her.

1 Max, an old black lab and his owner Kathy stop by to pick me up and we go for a neighbourhood walk about. Max is pretty old and it's hot out so we keep it short.

2 Lamb. Grilled so it's slightly pink inside and seared on the outside. A little mint sauce on the side.

3 It's good to know that my computer skills are appreciated. At the other job they tell me they almost pulled their hair out trying to create a document. It was simple for me but I was sure to not let on.

Monday 9 July 2012

enticement, coolness and notes

1 I put new syrup out for the humming birds but so far none have returned. I'm beginning to think we've offended the sensitive wee ones. Perhaps they might be enticed back with some fragrant bright flowers.

2 Lunchtime walks inevitably end up at the beach. Today it's hot but as I head to the boardwalk the breeze touches my skin and I catch my breath. It's a physical and emotional response to the beauty I see and feel.

3 Writing more notes on the whiteboard. Every time I look up from my computer screen it's there. It might be subliminal now?

Sunday 8 July 2012

friends, sandwich and soup

1 Spending the afternoon with new friends on a hot summer day. We took in the local market, then to their place for cool drinks and snacks. Their yard is a sanctuary and filled with flowers, birds and lovely shady spots.
2 Home made bread with mayo and fresh tomatoes with a glass of iced tea.
3 He tells me that soup is good for dieting. He's lost 25 lbs and so I guess he's got something there. I love summertime vegetable soup.

Saturday 7 July 2012

goats, waters and breezy

1 The markets at Coombs have a variety of goods for sale. There's everything from local fruits and vegetables to clothing, specialty stores, garden centre and fancy restaurant as well as picnic grounds and shaded spots for resting. It's the goats that always amuse me.
2 Our front entrance has had plants in the past but there's not enough light for them to grow well. G and I found a waterfall feature when she was here and I purchased it today. I haven't quite figured out how to put it together but I will. Stay tuned!
3 The breeze flows lightly over my skin cooling and soothing me from the hot sun.

Friday 6 July 2012

puttering, forecast and alright

1 It's a good day to putter about in the green house and the gardens. The roses and petunias need clipping and there are weeds aplenty. <aplenty: love that word, so old fashioned>

2 Our forecast for the foreseeable future is warm 25-29C with a high probability of sunburns, picnics, campers and smiling faces.

3 The nurse is very busy tending to a burn victim, so I quietly wait for my turn. He comes out of her clinic room and is smiling; he's going to be alright.

Thursday 5 July 2012

set, soothing and purring

1 A new washer and dryer is getting delivered the middle of next week. Oh it will be so nice to have 'whisper quiet' mean just that and not sound like a train going through the house.

2 When someone is that unhappy it's hard to stay positive especially in a work environment. I make sure to walk in the sunshine on my lunch hour and let the sun and the warm weather soothe my soul.

3 Our old kitty is looking pretty thin these days. I guess age is creeping up on us all. I'm treating her to some wet food every few days and judging by her loud purring as she's eating it, she is in favour of that idea.

Wednesday 4 July 2012

lawns, simple and surprise...I hope

1 The lawns all look great. It took an hour and a half! Who needs a gym anyways?

2 Lamb with mint sauce and veggies with dip. A simple dinner but perfect for tonight.

3 He's home soon and for a surprise, I'm planning a short getaway. Not sure just yet where but if I can find a decent B&B we'll be headed to one of the Gulf Islands for an adventure. Must do more research!

Tuesday 3 July 2012

back, in the nick of time and mini

1 Back to work after the long weekend. A colleague is back and we're hoping she's wanting to stay. We could use some extra hands.

2 My network cable keeps coming unplugged. Thankfully I get a notice pop up on my screen and can quickly reinsert before all my programs crash.

3 Doing a mini practice of yoga before shower and bed. It feels right.

Monday 2 July 2012

rain, leftovers and messy eater

1 A deluge of rain means the sprinklers can take a break. It's been a long time since they were on. Here's hoping the sun decides to come out and play.

2 A few leftover potted plants at the grocery store are marked down so cheap I can't resist.

3 Corn on the cob with lots of butter that dribbles down my chin.

Sunday 1 July 2012

Canada Day, songstress and rice

1 It's Canada Day! It's a good day to head to Victoria and spend time with two of my favourite people. We go to a tea house, shop a wee bit and end it with a walk around Bear Lake.
2 The young girl sings her heart out for a few pennies here and there. Her soul is in her words and there for us all to see.
3 Rice, Tokyo Style. It's Izzy's favourite and now mine too. Rice with a little butter and soy sauce. Warm and yummy and best eaten with chopsticks.
