soup de explosion, part two and new years eve bash

1 The objective is to make Lamb Lentil Soup. The outcome was a cracked blender and soup explosion! I'm grateful for my husband who helped me with the burns and cleaned up the kitchen. Only one blister...I am thankful.

2 Dinner part two became an assortment of pickles, olives, antipasto, hame, garlic sausage, cheese and crackers, red pepper jelly and cream cheese, smoked oysters and tea, all shared by candlelight and fire from the wood stove.

3 The teens next door decided that they would have a 'party', which was really a blow out bash including broken windows and girls crying, silly boys on trampolines and taxis at all hours of the night. We smiled as we snuggled into our bed knowing tomorrow we'd wake up without hangovers, or having had a fight or broken up.

discovery, party and he has plans

1 The discovery that a new friend is following my blog. She's a sweetie but really loves Christmas garlands! haha NOT!! We've been playing a game of putting the ugliest garland at work into each others mailboxes. I forgot to check mine before I left hmmm bet it's there again!

2 We have an impromptu NYE party at work. Salsa and chips, guacamole dip , spinach dip and sourdough and cranberry juice with Perrier! Tres chic!

3 I suggest an evening of appetizers, wine and hot tubbing. He agrees and suggests New Years Eve brunch!

the menu, things in common and enough for now

1 Stuffed pork tenderloin with cold applesauce and a crisp fresh salad is the fare he has prepared for us tonight. I'm liking this.
2 We share a bit more and find we like what we have in common.
3 I'm looking forward to using my spa gift certificate. For now, the fantasy is enough.

great job, he likes it and zzzzzzzzzzzz

1 Doing a great job at the union office, means I left today with all the work completed and then some.

2 He doesn't mind that we have leftovers one more time. In fact he likes it.

3 I'm so tired that I think I'm asleep.

rain, quiet and put away

1 The rain pounds outside. I'm wondering if there will come a time when I don't like the rain, but I doubt it. The sound soothes and lulls me.
2 He's quiet and needs some space to research a gadget of some sort.
3 Christmas 'stuff'  is back in its box for another year; warm thoughts, good feelings and kindness shall stay to keep us company as always.
4 Another candle gift. This time it's from the health food shop and it's a beeswax honey and cranberry scent.

bobviously, bending and sustenance

1 We do a trip up island and find our way to the Pacific Shores Resort and Spa. Coffee and chocolate desserts while watching the fish swim about in the 60,000 gallon tank. Very cool, bobviously as my dear friend S will say on a Boxing Day!
2 It's a windy day. Trees bend and sway with the gusts.
3 Our turkey soup turns out amazing. It's made with a mix that was a  Christmas gift to Russ from our friends G and F. Many thanks for feeding us! xo

winds again, pioneer cooking and awesome boy

1 The howling winds bluster through the neighborhood. A branch comes down on a power line not so far from here, and we are in the dark. We are warm from our wood stove and rather like the quiet.

2 Turkey was already done, so all we had to cook were the veggies and gravy which we did on the woodstove. Just as we're getting ready for a romantic candle lit dinner the power comes back on. hmmm The food looks just as good in light; taste good too.

3 His dad tells me that Kesler is feeding 3 out of four on his own. He's gaining weight and doing awesome!

win, freebies and blesings

1 I win! A soy candle from a gift shop in Parksville. Many thanks Melody.
2 The local grocery shop can't keep all its stock until it reopens so they are giving a lot of it away. We get a poinsettia for half price, free stollen pastry (sp?), 2 extra salmon and crab pinwheels and our salad for half price! I guess there's something to be said for last minute shopping
3 Kesler is still in hospital. I'm so proud of his mom for spending the night with him there so he isn't alone on this special night. Blessings~

Friday, 23 December 2011

1 We sing "We wish you a Merry Christmas" to some of the staff as they leave work today.
2 Each staff member has a mailbox at work and we all took turns leaving treats or surprises for each other. Today was my turn and it was such fun to put chocolates in the boxes. One woman who's been going through a lot especially liked hers. She would come out by the box and see her treat, take it and go back to her desk, return only to find more chocolate! It was nice to see her smiling again.
3 Dinner at Riso. A new restaurant in Lantzville. Oh wait, besides the pub it's the ONLY restaurant. Trout was amazing, decor stark and cold. Not sure we'll go back for dinner, maybe lunch might be worth a try.

Kesler, Barb and clean

1 Kesler is making great progress. Today his mom sent me some pictures of him in a cute outfit or two and also having a bath. He's changing already.
2 Barb and I have a lot of laughs at work today. She is a good teacher and friend. She loves the Santa ornaments!
3 Clean clothing all washed and put away.

Wednesday, 21 December 2011

thanks, pink and mug

1 I can't wait to use my new bookmark/light tonight. Thanks Robin!
2 Pink? Yes I am wearing a pink scarf today. It's not a colour I'd normally choose but it's fun and playful and I'm  thankful for a remembrance.
3 A personalized mug stuffed full of chocolate, other goodies and a candy cane fill my mailbox slot at work.

Friday December 16
1 And for my friend Tom....spelling error!!! :)
2 Getting to hold a wee one. He opens his eyes and a slight smile touches his lips.
3 The climate is dry and my arthritic hands are happy. It feels good to have movement without pain.

Saturday December 17
1 We go on a tree hunting adventure to get them a Christmas tree. We find a little one about 3 feet tall on the side of the road. Not in anyone's yard of course, but in a gully. He quickly saws it and we toss it into the truck and speed away laughing at  our own silliness!
2 Indoor mini lights in multiple colours for 1.25 make the day for a special little two year old girl. She is totally enamored by the lights and the angel on top of her very own child sized Christmas tree.
3 Isabelle shows every light to Pa!

Sunday December 18
1 We think our day will be one way but it turns out to be slow and steady.
2 Isabelle really enjoys her inside play slide. First Isabelle goes down, then her baby doll, then all the barnyard animals.
3 Baby clothes are washed and stacked ready for sweet Kesler.

Monday, December 19
1 Chris looks very dapper today. Suit and tie for work.
2 Kesler is looking much better. The jaundice is gone and he's a little squirmy worm when it's feeding time.
3 Isabelle and her parents open Christmas presents tonight. Izzy particularly loved her colouring book and reading books. Photos to follow on the plant gardener blog

Tuesday, December 20
1 Kesler is doing much much better today. He's awake more and eating has taken on a new meaning for him.
2 She loves her new truck! Blue with red wheels! She barely had time to say goodbye.
3 We are home again and soon to be sitting in the hot tub.

Sunday, 11 December 2011

woods, Christmas tree and Secret Santa rules!

1 We have a slow start to the day but manage to find our way to the woods exploring the back roads. It's been a very long time since I've done that and I'm a little unsure of myself. He of course would love to go down the roads that may or may not be real roads. Maybe they're just trails. One even turned into a small stream/river.Very wintery.

2 We find a cluster of trees that are small but stately. Now we have our Christmas tree and it's a beauty! Decorations go up tomorrow.

3 Secret Santa brought me an electric pencil sharpener, some erasers and H pencils. It's the perfect gift! Who knew? Santa knew lol

4 Our grandson is trying to make his entrance into the world. He needs to stay put a wee bit longer. We're saying prayers for things to settle down and let him grow a little be more before he's born.

Saturday, 10 December 2011

Monday thru Saturday...doh!

Monday
1 Our friends leave in the wee hours of the morning with cheerful goodbyes. They're ready to get home.
2 Toffee that's home made for the office staff. It's soft and gooey.
3 The Christmas tree at work is tied to a coat rack because they've lost the stand. It's a solution.
Tuesday
1 62 little kindergarteners get hearing and vision screening. One little girl is especially appreciative of her stickers and hugs my leg after she gets hers.
2 We are done screening! Time to celebrate with lunch at Bradleys deli. Vegetable barley soup for me.
3. She's left me a surprise in the closet as a thank you for their stay. None was needed. It was a pleasure having them.  Many thanks for the gifts..music box and lemongrass!!! (hmmm no mall trip huh? lol)
Wednesday
1 He's on a mission to get the old Honda ready for sale so he works into the wee hours.
2 The leftover spaghetti sauce has aged to perfection.
3 New ice radials on smokin' rims.
Thursday
1 He surprises me with an invitation to dinner out. We go to the local pub for a game of pool and pub food. I'ts perfect.
2 A trip to Costco to get some items for the Giving Tree to help needy families is successful and all shopping is done.
3 I've gotten lots of knitting done. Time to get it pressed and mailed.
Friday
1 The staff party is so much fun! A Secret Santa gift exchange where we instantly know by our gifts who pulled our names!
2 Potluck food...wings, meatballs, caesar salad, layer dip, meat and cheeses, fruit and sweets.
3 The roadblock is fun. When you're sober anyways!
Saturday
1 We are waiting for the next grandchild to arrive. Mom is in hospital and both are doing fine. We're hoping he doesn't come early. Sending prayers to them.
2 He makes a HUGE sale today. Way to go son!
3 Rent a dog! We're not sure we're ready for a dog of our own so we are dog walking a neighbours pup. He's great.

Sunday, 4 December 2011

brunch, wreath and itinerary for the evening

2 A Christmas wreath! We gather our branches across the street in the forest, pick holly from our own tree and make a beautiful wreath for our front door.
3 A dinner of leftovers, followed by a bit of geeking and now a movie before a soak.

Saturday, 3 December 2011

1 A quiet Saturday morning started by sharing coffee in the hot tub with my guy.
2 Our friends arrive from south island and we catch up on all their news.
3 We cook together making butternut squash soup and a hearty spaghetti sauce.

Friday, 2 December 2011

wall, yum and over the top christmas decorating at the office

1 Sometimes I find myself retreating behind a wall. Today someone at work says to me, 'You're acting weird, what's up?' Was I? Well that sure snapped me back to reality.
2 Mandarin oranges and shortbread cookies.
3 Decorating the office for Christmas...holy smokes what a tonne of stuff! Apparently there is someone who realllllly likes this holiday at the office. It's fun to watch her go at it.

Thursday, 1 December 2011

dinner/lunch, new wheels and good service

1 He brings home dinner and later makes me a lunch for work. Nice! Caesar salad with chicken.
2 Winter tires and new sleek rims for our new car. No installation fees because the company screwed up the initial install by putting the tires in someone else's vehicle!
3 A steaming cup of Sleepytime tea is made for me and served. I'm grateful to not have to do it for myself tonight.

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

voice, bribe and my husband is hot!

1 I'm happy to hear my friends voice. Our conversation covers many topics. Wow that was a a quick hour.

2 We are bribed at work with doughnut holes. Apparently it worked.

3 The lumberjack jacket has a new designation....around home, for gathering firewood but not for dress up. yay He's smokin' hot in his new suede overcoat.

Tuesday, 29 November 2011

work, friends and super powers

1 Work is all about catch up. It's a Monday and quiet so we can.

2 Our friends take us out for a nice dinner. Lots of laughter and fun, good food too.

3 Their drinks arrive and are doubles! I ask him if he can drive home and he says, "I can drive. I feel like Superman" Needless to say I drove home.

Sunday, 27 November 2011

adventure, meandering and thankful hands

1 Our grand daughter had an adventure. Desitin cream everywhere. Thankfully it's not a permanent lotion application but is water soluble and very difficult to get out of her hair. She still manages to be in good spirits when we Skype.

2 We take a drive up island today. Beaches, winds and meandering roads.

3 My hands are doing a lot of work these days but today they thank me for keeping them moving and hurting less.

Saturday, 26 November 2011

its full, less and making

1 It's full of interesting bits of things to get done.
2 Sometimes it's best to say less.
3 I'm enjoying making gifts this season.

Friday, 25 November 2011

she says, another she says and empty

1 She says to me, "It's always a pleasure working with you. I'd love to have you here all the time. You do a lot of work"
2 Another she says, "You have a great voice. I'm happy to talk to you anytime."
3 Each little piece of chocolate is savoured and soon the container is empty and stomachs are full.

Thursday, 24 November 2011

visitors, rupert and russ

1 Tom, Shannon and Rupert are here for a visit. Smiling faces and warm hugs start our visit.
2 Rupert has more energy tonight than he's had in months...yay for a fenced yard and cat to chase.
3 Seeing Russ in his office chair surfing the 'interweb' for tires.

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

awakening, java and forecast

1 My eyes flutter open and I realize it's not as dark out as when I usually waken. I like sleeping in.

2 Hot coffee with just the right amount of cream and sugar.

3 Our forecast today was slow with a high probability of doing very little.

Tuesday, 22 November 2011

training, leaving, and loving

1 Training in Excel and Word today. Not much new but I enjoyed the refresher.

2 Leaving early so I can warm up the house for my husband's arrival.

3 Having him home for good. Yay!

Monday, 21 November 2011

winds, drool and yum

1 Super stormy night yet again.  Up to 80/km hr winds....sounds awesome!
2 The cat enjoys snuggling on my lap. She's purring so hard she's drooling.
3  Stormy outside but 24C inside and I'm eating ice cream!

♥, sustenance and waiting

1 Isabelle ♥

2 Stew; hot and delicious on a cold November night.

Saturday, 19 November 2011

Isabelle, loves and clickety click click

1 Isabelle goes bananas when she sees me on the tv today for a Skype visit. She laughs and jumps and tries so hard to pull me from the screen. We laugh at each other and she and I give each other kisses.

2 My tears are full of gratitude for her love and my love for her.

3 Knitting...

Friday, 18 November 2011

gone, noise and wood

1 The headache was given its eviction notice and left. Thankfully it chose not to occupy my head any longer.
2 There is snow on the ground and it makes a crunching sound when someone drives or walks on it. The cat however is still silent when she delicately makes her way along to the woodshed.
3 I'm so incredibly thankful for the dry wood so neatly stacked waiting for me to burn.

Thursday, 17 November 2011

joy, snow and family

1 The school is incredibly noisy and full of chaos. I'm wondering how this environment has helped to form such lovely children, because they were a joy to be with today.
2 Large snowflakes fall reminding me of the Kootenays.
3 Nick and Sara call me from China. It 's wonderful hearing and seeing them. Yesterday I talked to Chris, Michie and Isabelle (and Russ every night of course). I am blessed.

Tuesday, 15 November 2011

frost, singing and talking

1 Outside it's a winter wonderland of frost.
2 I have some great songs to sing along to on my drive home.
3 Tonight is for good conversation with some of my most favourite people.

Monday, 14 November 2011

wood, purrs and runs

1 Gathering wood in the dark...adventurous.
2 Kosha purrs so loud it sounds like it's coming from outside!
3 The new car runs like a dream. So nice to drive a car without a shaking tranny!

Sunday, 13 November 2011

visit, life and I wonder

1 Our visit is great! Vietnamese dinner followed by wine and hot tubbing last night followed by brunch and mostly window shopping but with a few treats thrown in.
2 She tells me about her life including the ups and downs. Through it all she is accountable for her actions, not a victim and is looking for ways to move forward. I'm so proud of her.
3 The third package has an assortment of everything in it. Looking forward to hearing what the recipients think.

Saturday, 12 November 2011

threes

1  A surprise visit from my niece. I think it's been close to 3 years since we've seen each other, so looking forward to it.
2 Another box is packed and ready for the bus. 3 care packages in a week for those special people.
3  A few texts today from 3 of my favourite people.

Friday, 11 November 2011

storm, storm, storm

1  The wind howls and swirls eventually creating chaos. Power goes out, tree limbs are snapped and the rain pounds on the windows from every direction. It's exciting to watch especially as I'm inside warm and dry.
2 The quietness of the house is soothing and i'm soon napping in front of the fire.
3. Candles light the room, giving it a warm home glow until the power is restored.

Thursday, 10 November 2011

birthday, singing and last

1 One of the girls from the office is having a birthday. She loves the scarf and the chocolates we've given to her!
2 The drive home is dark and gloomy but the songs on the radio are upbeat and get me singing out loud!
3 The last of the leftovers for dinner.

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

apples, cake and exception

1 Our apples are crisp and ready for eating.
2 Once a month the social fund at work get a cake or some sort of sweet to celebrate birthdays in the office that month. This month's treat is a light white cake with lemon filling and frosting.
3 There is one little girl in the kindergarten class who is very excited and yet so polite. Most of the children don't thank us but she was the exception.

The Big Cat

‎"Remember, I am the brightest star on a winter's/summer's night."
RIP Quarky

Monday, 7 November 2011

gone but not forgotten, wind and dinner.

1 Today was a bit of a rough day, we lost our sweet male cat. I'm grateful for our time with him. He'd like to roam about but always came home. Now's he's at a new home, without dangers and is hopefully at peace.
2 The wind rattles the panes and screens lulling me into a strange sleep halfway between awake and dreaming.
3 Cold lamb and greek salad.

Sunday, 6 November 2011

cleaning up, why and lamb

1 Bit by bit the garden is getting cleaned up. One more trailer load filled.
2 It's November and there are still a few flowers blooming. Is it denial or perseverance that makes them bloom so late?
3 Lamb!

Saturday, 5 November 2011

ok, quiet and soup

1 My daughter in law is experiencing some troubles in her pregnancy, but today the Dr says it's  nothing serious and mom and baby are doing well.
2 It was quiet in the neighbourhood today.
Butternut Squash Soup
    * 2 tablespoons butter
    * 1 small onion, chopped
    * 1 stalk celery, chopped
    * 1 medium carrot, chopped
    * 2 medium potatoes, cubed
    * 1 medium butternut squash - peeled, seeded cubed
    * 1 (32 fluid ounce) container chicken stock
    * salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1. Melt the butter in a large pot, and cook the onion, celery, carrot, potatoes, and squash 5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Pour in enough of the chicken stock to cover vegetables. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover pot, and simmer 40 minutes, or until all vegetables are tender.
2. Transfer the soup to a blender, and blend until smooth. Return to pot, and mix in any remaining stock to attain desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.

Friday, 4 November 2011

more, dinner and fire starter

1 She gives me a lot of praise today. It motivates me to do more and I do.
2 Chicken Caesar salad with extra chicken, parmesan and extra crunchy croutons.
3 What was I thinking of trying to make kindling tonight? Dunno, but the small blow torch worked just fine!

Thursday, 3 November 2011

newletter, skype and for me

1 I've created a newsletter out of nothing! What a great way to spend the morning at work.
2 A skype call from a friend I've not seen in years. She looks great with her new cut and colour and has lots of good things to share.
3 My second skype call is from Russ. He's back to working 12 hr days but still takes the time to call. His face, his smile for me make the long night easier.

Wednesday, 2 November 2011

stickers, suggestion and call

1 The kindergarten classes are full of vibrant busy children. My favourite is the little girl who has had her hearing tested last year but says in a shy quiet way that she just really wants a turn. No time for a turn, but she liked the stickers.
2 A suggestion from a friend to meet for coffee at Chapters soon.
3 A telephone conversation with my daughter in law is open, honest and loving.

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

warm, attitude, stillness and cat in the hat

1 The house is still warm from the wood heat. I put a large log in before I left for work and when I got home, it still had some embers glowing for a new blaze.
2 He appeared to have the right attitude towards finding out the legal information I need. He asked questions, stayed on topic and had a plan of action.
3 There is a stillness in the house. The radio  is softly playing in the kitchen, the fan whirls while the grandfather clock chimes and the wood stove crackles.
4 She's a little under the weather but still manages to enjoy her Cat in the Hat music.

Monday, 31 October 2011

Halloween, diversion and little ones

1 Fireworks have been going off all evening. It's late and people are still in the Halloween spirit.
2 He laughs when it's time to go through security at the airport. He knows I'll smile at his antics instead of tears.
3 Last year we had no trick or treaters but this year 33 little ones came to our door. I especially enjoyed Snow White and the little lady bug who was about a year and a half and would only wear the antennae!

Sunday, 30 October 2011

day, cutting and waitress

1 We eased into the day with coffee, tea and good talk.
2 He thoroughly enjoys being the 'chain saw guy'. We now have pruned grapes, a large branch is not blocking the driveway area anymore and sadly a plum tree is gone. Next turnaround we'll get rid of the stump and plant a new fruit tree. I'm leaning towards a plumcot.
3 The waitress was in fine form, chatting about her family and stories of Taiwan. She's always pleasant when we're in their establishment.

Saturday, 29 October 2011

excursion, bidding and dating

1 Our excursion to the car auction netted us a new used car.
2 The bidding process was so exciting. My heart was pounding and I could barely breathe! It was so fun! Thank god we had a cut off price!
3 Lunch at Lefty's! Excellent meal with my guy. I love dating my husband!

Friday, 28 October 2011

robin, showers and a mixture

1 I enjoy working with Robin. She has a good heart, tries very hard and shows genuine interest in people. She could be a good friend.
2 The weather is blustery and blows leaves in every direction. Showers of red, yellow and green swirl around me as I walk to the beach and back on my lunch break.
3 We find a local pub to have our dinner. It's full of characters. There's a table full of young men who initially are rather tame but progressively get louder the more they drink; two elderly men who continuously tell each other they should go home even as they order another pint of beer and finally two older women. One woman is larger and drinks beer while the other slightly older woman drinks red wine and chews gum with her mouth wide open. Our home town locals are a mix and a half.

Thursday, 27 October 2011

too much, simple and more

1 Too many things to think about. He listens, hugs and comforts.
2 Dinner is simple but shared.
3 More apple crisp for him to indulge on.

Wednesday, 26 October 2011

schedule, lunch and a bit of both

1 My work schedule has changed and I'm a little unsure of what to do next. I've asked the new supervisor to clarify it with my other boss. I'm hoping I don't rock the boat too much.
2 We have a very brief lunch at the beach. It's so windy and rainy you can hardly see the ocean and beachfront but still, we're at the beach.
3 We watch a movie together and don't fall asleep. That's either because we watch it early in the evening, it's a good movie that keeps our attention or a bit of both.

Tuesday, 25 October 2011

reconnecting, occupy and husband food

1 We both sleep late and luxuriate in the feeling of lazing around and just talking to each other.
2 Today he wants to visit an occupy site. It's a bit cool and windy but we check it out, talk to a few people and try to envision solutions for some of the issues. It would be good to hear most positives. Tomorrow we'll see about attending one of their public forums and hearing what others have to say.
3 Rosemary, garlic lamb sausages, green beans and brussel sprouts for dinner with apple crisp and ice cream for dessert. He hasn't eaten a home cooked meal in a very long time.

Monday, 24 October 2011

smile, packages and arrival

1 It's a typical Monday. Lots of grumpy people. I let someone go in line in front of me and you can tell she doesn't want to smile her thank you but does.
2 Packages are boxed, addressed and mailed away. I'm hoping those that receive them will be pleased by the contents.
3 It's late by the time his flight arrives. I'm standing right in the front so he can see me when he comes through the doors. He sweeps me into his arms and twirls me around.

Sunday, 23 October 2011

care packages, autumn and fish

1 Two care packages are carefully boxed up and sent to their destinations on the bus. I remember my mom sending me mine. It always thrilled me that she would put so much thought and effort into sending me some 'home'.
2 The colours of the leaves are breathtaking and the sun warm on my face. I wander along the sea wall enjoying the smell of the sea and my own company.
3 Pirate chips! Yes, it was filling and delicious. And no, I couldn't eat it all.

Saturday, 22 October 2011

rain, rain and rain

1 It rains on and off today, giving me just enough time in between to get in and out of my car without getting drenched.
2 The cats are much happier inside away from the wind and rain. One curls up on the love seat and the other finds a warm spot on the sheepskin rug under Russ's desk.
3 The sound of rain and wind pounding outside is oddly soothing. I close my eyes and I drift away.

meeting, books and blessings from Isabelle

1 I enjoyed meeting and going over some potential business ideas with a coach. He listens well and asks those specific leading questions.
2 There are three books worth reading he says, 'The Art of the Start''Ignite the Third Factor' and 'The One Minute Manager'
3 We have a chance to Skype tonight. She gets pretty excited to see me on the big tv screen. She is busy showing me things, sharing her blanket with me and when it's time to go I move so she can see me at her level on the screen and she comes over and kisses me goodnight. What a blessing.

work, migraine and treat

1 Work: games and angst but in the end cooler heads prevailed.
2 Migraine: his gentleness is welcome.
3 Treat: All the staff had a taste of my homemade salsa, sour cream and nacho chips.

hunger, warmth and listeners

1 When hunger hits sometimes it gnaws in the pit of my stomach. Tonight a strange concoction of ground meat, mushrooms, veggies and cheese soothed my belly.
2 The house has the feeling of bone chilling cold when I get home from work. I cuddle into the big rocking chair and turn on the electric blanket the kids gave me for Christmas. My toes are warm, finally!
3 I have people in my life who listen. I mean the kind of people who care enough to listen to my whining and drivel and still say, 'I love you or it's okay" Sometimes they ask questions, sometimes they nod or say uh huh, but they are really hearing me. I have listeners in my life.

middle, days and real

1 It's the middle of October but the sun shone and warmed up the earth here today. 17C was a very pleasant surprise.
2 Counting down the days, yet again, but he's home in 6 days.
3 Getting a text message with real gratitude.

an assortment, list and home soon

1 The apples are all finally picked. Buckets and buckets have been given away. Now we've some left for us. Apple crisp, apple slices for pie (both frozen) and apples to eat.

2 It's one of those days where I did only a few of the things on my to do list but things that should have been on the list got done!

3 He's got another cold so our conversation is mostly luvin's for him. He's home a week today.

cleaned up gardens, rose and a call

1 The gardens need putting to bed for the winter. Nine overflowing wheelbarrows to the trailer and although I love how the gardens look when they 're full of flowers, this cleaned up garden is lovely too.
2 A rose is hiding under all the ivy. It now has some space and room to grow.
3 A call from a friend whom I haven't talked to in months. What a wonderful surprise to catch  up on her news and talk a little bit about where we used to work together, politics and her new cats!

occupy, we went second and new people

1 There were lots of people from every walk of life today at the "Occupy" event that I went to. Peaceful, powerful and full of promise.
2 The banquet was fun! Decorated in union colours, food by "The Good Cooking Guys" and great company at the table. I particularly liked that the two women I work with can have fun and joke around. But best thing was out of 15 tables in the random 'who goes first to the buffet" was that we were 2nd! yay
3 John and Glenda are from Texeda Island. It took them 5 hours and 3 ferry rides to get to the party but they made it. Nice people with an interesting life story. So glad to have met them.

he passed, exceeding expectations and superstar?

1 The call comes late in the day. She sounds so sad and tells the story of how things just didn't work out. The questions were different and he just didn't pass. Then they dissolve into fits of giggles and she says...."He PASSED"!!! Lots of excitement and happiness in that car. He has his LLQP license and has been hired to work for The Knights of Columbus. Thank you all for your prayers.
2 Work was great! The rep tells me that the boss in Victoria thought that I'd only get half of the work done because I am so new at it all. I threw them all a surprise curve ball. I got all the work done plus some extras!
3 She thanked me many times and called me a superstar. I'll take it even if it is slightly exaggerated. :-)

vision, start and cheese

1 The optometrist does her magic and with my new progressive rigid contacts I can see perfectly. They order the new prescription and they'll be here in about a week. Clear vision...can't wait!
2 The gardens, well part of the gardens got a pruning today. There are piles all over the yard that need picking up and more to be done. But it's a start!
3 Swiss cheese that's low sodium! yumm

outside, deluge and family time

1 I spend time today in the gardens, mowing, clipping and tossing out the end of season hanging baskets. Soon I'll tackle the backyard.
2 I'd finished mowing the larger portion of the garden and was starting to mow the section with the fruit trees and all of a sudden felt a few mini droplets of rain. I'm saying the mantra (Please don't pour til I'm done, please don't pour til I'm done) in my head while I'm feverishly mowing. I'm hurrying as fast as i can. As I'm putting the mower into the garden shed it turns into a deluge. Thank you Mother Nature for being patient.
3 Because of the uncertainty of the flight attendants strike he decides to re-book his flight and instead heads into the city. He spends time first with his niece and then his brother and sister in law. It's good to spend family time.

the look, rain, thanks and prayers

1 I love the look of this restaurant. It's on my bucket list.
2 First rain, then sun, then mist and more rain. Island living at its finest. I love the rain.
3 He calls tonight just to tell me he'd heard on the news that the flight attendants strike has been averted, 'for now'. Even though it was a diversion from studying (his words) he calls and keeps it brief. Thanks!
4 Sending prayers his way. Please pray for him to pass the exam. Thanks!

monday, shop and food

1 It's Monday and the actual day of Thanksgiving. So we do the traditional thing and head to the shops! Lunch and a brief look about before we head home.
2 The soap shop is lovely! All natural and luscious scents. My favourite is Lemongrass.
Rocky Mountain Soap Company
3 They sent me home with leftovers...Yes! The entire turkey leg, cranberry sauce, some white meat, sausage and regular stuffing, corn pudding, yams, spuds, brussel sprouts...omg I am re-stuffed! Love it.. thank you so much!

open, hilarious and thankful

1 Rip and Flo are amazing people. I am so touched by their generosity and willingness to open their home and hearts to me.
2 Penny is hilarious. She is simultaneously outspoken and humorous.
3 There is so much to be thankful for. Home, heart, family, love...today is a good good day.

Saturday, 8 October 2011

on time, the day and gigglers

1 I left on time! How did that happen? The morning went relatively smoothly and I enjoyed the drive down south.
2 We spent the afternoon together. We have a late lunch at Swan's, walkabout downtown, shop at MEC and then a walk at Willows Beach. Thoroughly enjoyable.
3 My best friend and I have the giggles. We are at her mom and dad's place so we make sure we don't keep them up by going downstairs. The conversation goes sideways right from the beginning and we dissolve into fits of giggling. I can't remember laughing so much with her. She is my best friend.

musical, purging and never enough

1 I like listening to Randy Bachman on Friday night CBC radio. He likes to play music connected to topics and ideas. Nice banter too.
2 My closet is cleaned out. Summer clothing is put away and fall/winter is on the shelves and hanging up. A large orange garbage bag found itself full of clothes and shoes and made its' way to the thrift shop. Yes! I do love purging.
3 The rule is if you haven't worn it in a year it's outta here. hmmm Note to self: You have enough clothes! But a girl never has enough shoes ;-)

Thursday, 6 October 2011

frog, apples and the lineup

1 It was very quiet here. The frog is making a big racket with his bellowing. I wonder if he's mating or just calling everyone for dinner.
2 The apples are big and ripe and juicy. Small, medium and large sizes. My favourite is the large ones. You need two hands to hold one.
3. The nurse tries hard to make sure that everyone is seen in a timely fashion. I have had my shot before the rush, so I am just on the sidelines people watching. One man is impatient; he's at the back of the line. A man and his son banter about a school trip and take turns on the iPhone. And then there is the elderly gentleman in the waiting room. He just sighs a lot. But when it's his turn, he struggles to get up. He's lucky though, he's got a nephew to help him.

cats, greedy and plan

1 The cats greet me enthusiastically today. I think hunger is a great incentive for them.
2 Later the greedy beasts come snuggle with my in the big comfy chair. One on each side, loud purring and lots of petting.
3 He's putting effort into his new plan. I like his enthusiasm and initiative.

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

work options, talking and plans

1 I realize that I have to make a change with my work options. So, I'm in a temporary position that will allow me to do my work for project management. I'm giving up my flexibility but will gain by learning new procedural and upper management methodology.
2 It was an enjoyable conversation with camaraderie, joviality and much amusement.  A very fun chat.
3 Our skype conversation lasted an hour and three quarters. We had a lot to say and even the silences are comfortable. We make more plans for his turn around time and  book another flight. Yes. This is very good.

Monday, 3 October 2011

waking, talking and looking

1 Waking up to my husband and having an extra 15 minutes of snuggling before I have to get up and ready for work.
2 Talking to both of my sons and realizing how very grown up they both are and being incredibly proud.
3 An invite to spend time with my best friend in Victoria sounds wonderful! I'm so looking forward to it!

Sunday, 2 October 2011

leaving, ferry and itinerary

1 The weekend passes too quickly. Suddenly it's time to go home again and we're off. The trip home is quiet for a while, then we have a lively discussion followed by quiet and finally food!
2 There is time to eat and walk about before the next ferry arrives. We enjoy fish stew and fresh salmon dinners. As per our usual methodology, we trade dinners after one bite each!
3 We thought he'd spend the night at a hotel but on second thought he comes home for one more night. We make travel plans for the morning; taxi, seaplane, shuttle, jet and finally he'll drive his truck back to the work site.

Saturday, 1 October 2011

south, volcano and curry

1 A trip south shows us a different lay of the land. One filled with gardens and orchards and places to explore. We both like what we see.
2 We go close to the top of an extinct volcano. There is moss and trees on one side, steep cliffs on the other. I had a hand to hold on to.
3 A curry dish that is very satisfying was our special treat from the kids. It was great to see all the progress on the unpacking and moving in.

Friday, 30 September 2011

meal, back road and leaps

1 We enjoy a meal of fruit and nuts. Salad later. Refreshing on a hot autumn day.
2 The back road from Vernon to West Kelowna is winding and on the side of the mountain! It gives a totally different perspective of the area. Some spots are native owned and less maintained, others are in development and then there is the last little area called LaCasa. Good grief! Super fancy houses built on a cliff with what seems like inches between the homes. We speculate on who would want to live there, do they work or just have money to burn.
3 He is making lots of leaps forward. We are so proud of him and how he is looking after himself and his family.

Thursday, 29 September 2011

ferry, giddy and gorgeous

1 We wake early and make the ferry with lots of time to spare. On the ferry he says we are on an adventure together and makes a dull ferry ride fun.
2 The restaurant in Hope is full and we expect to wait but we get a table quickly; the food is comes sooner than expected and it is excellent. We each have a coffee to stay awake and our giddiness surprises us both.
3 Their home is gorgeous! Granite counter tops, new cupboards and lots of space. There's even a view of the lake from the living room. Lucky them!

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

drive, whiteboard and best friend

1 We get an extra day together! Turns out we travel tomorrow. I like it when we drive in tandem.
2 The whiteboard once again has served its purpose. I love how we can get things written down and how quickly things change when we do.
3  I'm really looking forward to seeing my best friend this coming week. She'll be on the island for 10 days so we plan an overnight visit and maybe even thanksgiving with her family too. I'd better get shopping!

Tuesday, 27 September 2011

morning, apple and yes

1 They spent the night and this morning it's their last on the island. Today they leave for their new home but I'm grateful we had this morning.
2 She picked the biggest apple on the tree! No holding hands with Grandma; she needs both hands to hold her treasure.
3 We get a lot of things done today. It's two nights at home together. Yes!

Monday, 26 September 2011

timing, groovy ride and holding hands

1 We work like dogs to get it all packed up. I thought they'd said they would catch a later ferry but as I am settling in on the ferry I hear a familiar voice and realize it's Chris. They made the same ferry! Good timing.
2 What to do with an almost 2 year old girl who is playing in the midst of packing boxes and chaos? Simple! You put her into a plastic bin with handles, add her Pooh Bear and tell her to hang on! A mop handle attaches to the handles and we have a groovy ride complete with train noises from Grandma and squeals and shouts of more more, more from Izzy.
3. I am late picking him up from the ferry but he's pleased nonetheless and we hold hands on the way home.

Sunday, 25 September 2011

Ooops I missed Saturday...and here's Sundays

1 There is much to do with packing and cleaning and looking after Isabelle. It's busy but productive day.
2 We share some homemade unsweetened applesauce and at first Izzy wrinkles up her nose when she tastes it, but by the third spoonful she's slurping off of the spoon. Love that noise!
3 We also share cashews. As soon as she sees my bag she makes the 'mmmmm' sound and sits on my lap waiting for hers. She is little so she eats half a nut at a time. She must always have one in each hand waiting for the right moment to pop it in.
4 Chris has no time for anything, but he gives his mom a big hug and a thanks. I am lucky to have such a great son.
5 I like their friend Tyler. He is honest, open, hard working and has a great sense of humor. He's recently married his lady love. I think he will be an amazing husband.
6. Isabelle was so loving to me today. I cried later when I thought about it. She just climbed up on my lap, wrapped her arms around my neck, laid her head on my shoulder then looked up at me an kissed me, then laid her head back down and hugged some more. I tell the story to Nick and he totally gets how much I will miss her. I'm glad I could share this with him.

Tomato and Red Pepper Salsa...for Leonora

1 ½ pounds Bell Peppers, seeded

3 hot Chili Peppers, seeded

2 large red onions

3 cloves garlic

2 tbsp olive oil

3 tbsp fresh lemon juice

2 tsp Sea Salt

1 lb. ripe omatoes

¼ cup chopped fresh Cilantro

- Coarsely chop the peppers and onion. Put them into the food processor along with the garlic, oil, lemon juice, and salt.
- Process until finely chopped. Put the mixture, along with the tomatoes and cilantro, into a pot. Bring contents to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. If it looks too runny add some tomato paste! It will thicken it up quite nicely. If you want it spicier add more peppers or their seeds or even some hot sauce.
- Pour the salsa into sterilized jars and process in a boiling water bath for 25 minutes.

the spot, our role and at last

1 There was a spot. A spot on my camera that was driving me batty. We tried to clean it ourselves, having discussions about where the spot lived; the lens, the mirror, the places inside the camera that NO ONE should ever touch. Today I was in a camera shop and they took a quick look at the camera, got out their handy dandy unbelievably powerful magnifying glass; got the guy with the latex fingers and voila! Fixed.
2 We have a good conversation and make some tentative plans for their move and the role we (me and the Mr) will play in it. We should have some time to ourselves in the Okanagan before he heads back to prison...aka the mine where he is currently working.
3 At last! The salsa turned out well. I had to cook it longer, added more goodies than the last batch and actually paid attention to what I was doing! At last the salsa is done and it's damn good too.

wondering, another flight and nuts!

1 The open house was Wednesday so I missed the festivities but the office looked great with all the fresh and potted flowers, pictures hung and clutter put away or tossed. I wonder how long it will stay this way?
2 We discover we can use Airmiles to book flights closer to home for him so we book one for part way through his next turnaround. It's only for a few days but super cheap and no ferry trip. Something for him to look forward to.
3 I think I have an addiction problem...to cashews. Seriously,  it has to be the ultimate nut!

Wednesday, 21 September 2011

salsa, congratulations and warm

1 The salsa turned out runny but still was tasty. The girls at work were kind enough to say it was good tho. I'll have to be sure to add tomato paste to the next batch.
2 He passed his exam! I'm so proud of him. He studied hard and got it done! Congratulations Christopher! xo
3 The clothes dry just in time so I can put on warm jammies for bed. it's a cold a wet night, so it's nice to be warm.

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

what they do, company and he has plans!

1 She reads and sings to her little one; he studies and listens to Canuck radio.
2 They wanted my company tonight. We went to their house to check things out, get mail and then headed right back. Just a bit of time together outside of our house. I liked it.
3 He has plans! Some ideas for getting away before his turnarounds. Perhaps we will meet in Kelowna at the kids new place and get a double visit in!

Monday, 19 September 2011

finding a way home, together and distractions

1 His plans seem to change every day. Tonight it's not good news but we are still hopeful we can find a way to get him home.
2 They work well together today. I like the camaraderie, teasing and laughter.
3 The red pepper salsa was easy to make. Turns out I left out a few ingredients so will have to continue with batch #2 and see how I do with that one. Izzy is a great distraction! Photo and recipe to follow....stay tuned!

Saturday, 17 September 2011

meow, singing and home

1 Her newest word is 'meow' She repeats it over and over and every time it's just as cute as the time before.
2 We have the grandest time singing Old MacDonald in Costco. I sing the animal sound parts and she sings her own version of EI, EI, Oh!
3 He calls to say he thinks the job might be laying him off sooner than he thought. He tells me he is more than ready to come home. This time he will be home for a few months.

Friday, 16 September 2011

goodbyes, balloon, better

1 A quick visit with their family, brunch and then off to the airport. We say our goodbyes and everyone is grateful and sad. It was wonderful to have them visit after Nick being away for so long. He hugs me for a long time, knowing it will have to hold him until they take another holiday to 'home'.
2 We travel together on the ferry. Isabelle likes the play room and so we spend the majority of our time there. A little girl asks me to draw her a balloon, which I promptly do. She likes it and tries desperately to pick up the drawn string off of the paper.
3 I'm feeling quite a bit better. Tummy things really aren't so fun in a car or on a ferry. Glad to be in my own home.

Thursday, 15 September 2011

twist, boring, abduction

1 The usual committee meeting ended with a twist. I've been appointed the Lead on one of the Working Groups. I think I will be challenged with this one seeing as I am new to the job and facility and really will need to rely on the staff for feedback. Sure hope I get some help with this one.
2 So nice to come home to nothing unusual. Same old boring is just fine with me.
3 Russ calls today to say he's working 12 hr days and making overtime and not to worry if I need to get a hotel or anything. He says just buy it. Good grief who has abducted my husband?

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

lemon cucumbers, mini trip and I wonder

1 The lemon cucumbers that B gave to me were amazing. Little lemon shaped cukes with a mellow taste. And best of all they are an adorable flower design when sliced.
2 I'm headed to Vancouver tomorrow. I'll stay a couple of days with my aunt. A quiet dinner with her Thursday, brunch and airport with N and S Friday morning, lazy shopping/beach stuff, and dinner in White Rock in the evening.
3 A dear friend is coming Saturday for a couple of nights. He's got some business ideas which may or may not be something I have the time or inclination for. I haven't seen him in years. He lived in China for many years but is now back to being Canadian. I wonder how our visit will go after all those years?

notches, in good time and chances

1 It is definitely autumn. The leaves are starting to turn colour, the air is crisp and cool. The tomatoes are ripening at a quicker pace than I can eat them. I'd better kick it up a notch.
2 The floors are vacuumed and ready for a wash. One thing at a time.
3 The figs are much tastier when shared. Only one staff member really enjoyed them but she did so with such gusto, it made me smile. There was one lone fig left at the end of the afternoon. She was very pleased I gave it to her. I wonder if she shared with her husband. 50/50 chance.

morphing, success so far and sneezing

1 The crickets are morphing. What was one cricket singing solo has become choir practice!
2 We had a success at work. A blank slate with no procedure followed by some brainstorming, creativity and formatting resulted in a workable alternative. The two team leads will present this to staff on Wednesday.
3 After sneezing multiple times on multiple occasions today, I am pleased to report the sneezing has ceased.
