Saturday 27 December 2014

just a bit of fun, food, roads, and it's a date

1 We have a bit of fun just puttering around and then we're off on our dump date. He loads up the truck and trailer with branches from a tree we've "pruned", and pruned harshly, and we are off!
2 I have a chance to whip up a pot of turkey chow mien with our leftovers. It's perfect and light for our late afternoon meal.
3 The roads are wet but not too slippery on my way to work. I'll see what it's like when I leave in a few hours. So thankful for good solid winter tires.
3a I miss the kidlets and all of their noise, but we are recruited to watch them on Tuesday so Daddy and Mummy and their other grampa can take in a movie. What will we plan to do with them?

Friday 26 December 2014

the last six days

1 Mr P is packed up and ready to head home. It's a long drive. Sixteen hours, so he'll do it in two days.
2 We chit chat over the phone and find him the perfect out of the way place to stay. It's plain and simple, but clean and with a continental breakfast.
3 I make a big dent on my Christmas gift wrapping and gift making!
4 The idealistic me wants to make all sorts of things for everyone, but the practical side of me tells me to think real. I narrow down my selections and feel relief instantly.
5 Making a gingerbread house with Izzy. I love how she says, "I just love Grampa so much."
6 While we are making the gingerbread house, Kesler has found the train Christmas tree ornament along with little village we've put up. He meticulously checks each one out, carefully put one away before taking a new one.
7 It's time for a kitty. We have mice in our basement and they are not welcome!
8 The grandkidlets have a sleepover and in the morning are bursting with energy. Soon the hats, coats, gloves and boots are on and they're exploring the front yard.
9 Izzy finds the sand pile and soon both kids are wielding shovels and pails.
10 I'm glad there's no snow. It's nice to enjoy warmer weather after the long bitter cold snap we just had.
11 Grampa and Izzy get busy making pine cones for the birds. Lots of effort goes into getting the right amount of peanut butter and seeds as well as choosing the perfect length of string for hanging.
12 Mr P has patience. He hasn't been around kids a lot, never had any of his own, so it's a new and sometimes overwhelming experience for him. Still, he has patience.
13 Kes does really quite well despite being overwhelmed with sights and sounds from the busy Christmas morning. He's not ready to face the world yet, and hides his face in mommy and then daddy's shoulders.
14 Our Christmas dinner, well the turkey part is created and boned and served by the one and only Mr P. He follows the directions perfectly and it's a lovely golden brown and the stuffing - delicious!
15 Santa brought Izzy and Kes a few things in their stockings at our home. They each got a battery operated guitar! Kes loves music. Kesler carefully touches each button to hear the sounds. Izzy touches them all at once and dances all over the living room in complete abandon.
15a Chris had taken Izzy to the Dollar Store for Christmas shopping. She was so excited for each gift that she had chosen and each gift was perfect for the person. I'm amazed at the perceptiveness for a four and a half year old.
16 Izzy catches us smooching, grins and says, "You're married. Come on over here and dance. Rock it you guys."
16a Bath time for the little ones after dinner brings the energy level down a notch or two. At least for a little bit. Soon it's time for pumpkin pie and topping and we ride the sugar high.
17 After dinner we talk online with Nick and Sara. They look amazing, happy, cozy and we all get nostalgic. We show them the old home videos of Nick and Chris as toddlers and everyone has a good laugh.
18 Sara and Izzy sing songs to each other. Izzy chose a song from Frozen and Sara sang a Chinese lullaby to her.I look at the screen when Izzy is singing and see tears streaming down Sara's face and she's biting her bottom lip. They are lovely together.
19 The house is slowly being set to normal. The boxes are being filled with ornaments, gifts put away and baking goes into the freezer. All we have left are lights on the house and some turkey in the refrigerator.
20 Mr P likes his wifi weather station. He's putting it up and having fun playing with the install and putting the app on his phone.
21 It's quiet here. Just the sounds of the birds, the whirring of a washing machine down the hall and the sound of the keyboard.

Saturday 20 December 2014

cool, perks, hugs, stunning, magically hands, and stormy weather

1. The Coolest Thing About Gratitude
2 Working a half day and being done for a week! I purposely took off a full week to spend relaxing and having fun with family and friends. Casual employees get perks too!
3 I dropped off cards and gifts on Friday for my coworkers. How great to see them before the holidays and to get and give a hug or two.
4 Sam gave me a gorgeous hand crafted bracelet and earring set. So gorgeous I slept with it on! (ok just when napping but wow!) Thank you so much
5 The massage therapist did her magic on my back and neck. I was so congested it was a challenge to lie face down. She worked on my lymphatic system. Still stiff but better.
6 The rain and wind reminded me of living on the island. It seemed to come in gusts and every now and then I'd wake up from the loudness of the wind chimes, but it would lull me back to sleep as well.

Thursday 18 December 2014

time to go, help, information, no snow, christmas presents, and movie

1 This cold won't leave. I'm tolerating it for now. If it becomes too annoying (it already is) It'll have to leave out the front door, and no lingering.
2 A new friend has had the misfortune of breaking her ankle and is shuffling around her shop. It is endearing to see her husband go out of his way to help her.
3 He gives me the information I need to get downloading again. Darn that man is smart. Thanks Mr P.
4 Lots of flurries but none of it stays on the ground. I can see the snow line across the lake and it's making it's way down, but not today.
5 Cinnamon maple candied nuts, strawberry/cranberry sauce, and melted chocolate pretzels are all made. Took much longer than anticipated but done and ready for tags, ribbons and bows.
6 Watched "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". Chick flick and pure silliness. Why not?

Tuesday 16 December 2014

the day, mac and cheese, little, wrapped up, tea, how many more sleeps?

1 My birthday is quiet and gentle. The kids come for a visit in the late afternoon and we have a chance to visit and watch the kidlets play.
2 Kesler loves mac and cheese. His face shows all his emotions and the anticipation is pure excitement.
3 Izzy and I share the chicken noodle soup. She says she's happy to have a little bowl with a little spoon for little girls.
4 I love the look of a package covered in simple brown wrapping paper. Crisp, clean and tidy.
5 Egyptian licorice tea. A nice big teapot that lasts the evening.
6 The countdown has started. Mr P is laid off as of Sunday night. I'm so looking forward to having him home. 6 more sleeps.

Monday 15 December 2014

gripped, B, meds, healing hours, bday, voice and woohoo

1 Oh dear, this cold has me in it's grip. I'm resting and resting, drinking tea, and resting some more. I'm thankful for the peace and quiet of my home.
2 My friend, B has relocated to the area and is working at the hospital as well. We catch up over the phone and find out we have so much more in common that we even thought. How fun!
3 Medicine. Yes, I am very grateful for the medicine that is bringing some relief. Sorry to whine about my cold but hey some days it's difficult to find the positive. Okay, today's really hard, but I am here and hoping to turn the corner.
4 Twelve hours of sleep. Wow, that was amazing and healing.
5 It's my birthday today. I'm enjoying the Facebook messages, a couple of calls and texts and of course a visit from my family who brought me chicken noodle soup and tea. Love them.
5a Izzy says, "Grama, your voice sounds like a real Papa Bear." She means it's so deep I sound like what she thinks Papa Bear from the Berenstain books would sounds like!
5b Kesler is enthralled with the snow globe. It is definitely the train that runs underneath that he is drawn to.
6 Mr P calls and we have a fun and flirty (as flirty as I can be when I am sick) conversation. I'll be so happy when he's finally home.

Saturday 13 December 2014

massage me, where i sleep, and vitamin c

1 The massage therapist works on my back and neck and her warm hands work smoothly and with confidence. I like that the lotion she uses is non greasy and has no odour.
2 I slept on the couch by the fireplace, and in front of the warm fire and covered with a heated blanket, Toasty and relaxed.
3 Vitamin C. How great to find some in the crisper in the refrigerator. I sliced up a few and fed my cold.

Friday 12 December 2014

Friday fun and not so fun

1 A busy day at work with a head cold. ugh, but I am grateful it's over and I made it through~
2 Our sweet Kesler turned 3 today! He had a small party with his family and I'll go over tomorrow and have some time with them to celebrate just a little bit more.
3 There was a lovely invitation to an Christmas party with one of the other jobs that I do as a casual. How very nice to be included even if I had to say no because I was working!

Thursday 11 December 2014

Wednesday and Thursday

1 We work well together. So well, in fact, that we don't even take our breaks!  But I like it, it works, like us :)
2 The dining room and kitchen island have turned into Santa's workshop lately. Lots of organizing, wrapping and mailing. One package gone to China, two more to go! Great to get it all done.
3 The women in the gift shop hide the items that I want to purchase on Friday so that I get 20% off! I love how they are so hush hush and yet still do it so I can get the discount.
4 We put on a nice buffet tonight. Our little meals have turned into full on meals and it's awesome. Tomorrow I am on my own...what shall I bring?
5 She comes all the way out to the house so that I can sign the paperwork to get the new hot water tank installed. We chat, just for a bit and I realize she's in desperate need of an ear and hug. She gets both.
6 Mr P is off of the hook. The poor man struggles every year because my birthday and Christmas are so close together and I have often said I prefer to have them separate. Really, it's such a small thing, and he has such lovely intentions. This year we will do it simpler and easier. I don't know if he gets it yet, but I'm hoping he will relax and just breathe.
7 Kes has a lovely wonderful exciting moment when he connected with another little one and they were playing together. It was magical.
8 Finding the perfect gift for Kesler's birthday.

Tuesday 9 December 2014

who's Santa, kind words, and eat up

1 I met Peachland Santa today. His name is Tim and he owns the local hardware store. We chat for a bit and when I thank him he says, "Oh, I'll tell Santa when I talk to him!"
2 When I show Tim pictures of the kidlets we took with Santa he says of our grandson, " Oh I remember him, he didn't speak but his eyes were dancing."
3 We have a mini buffet tonight and share our treats with each other and others. Cheese, crackers, ham, olives, cucumber, fruits, banana bread, spinach croissant, nuts.....oh ya baby!

Monday 8 December 2014

i like it, tree, and wheee

1 I loved the morning's agenda;  rise and shine, turn on the tree lights and fireplace, make coffee, call Gaile, enjoy.
2 It's feeling very Christmasy at home. I love how the two different types of lights make for a two toned tree.
3 We had a mini impromptu Christmas party in our office sharing treats that Sam made, some peanut butter bars, nacho chips, salt and vinegar nuts and lots of laughs.

Saturday 6 December 2014

Friday & Saturday

1 The roads are slick this morning and we see many cars unable to make it up various hills and exits along the route. Still we take time to drop off little chocolate advent calendars for the grandkidlets.
2 One last day of work then the weekend off. I am the only support staff in the office so it makes for a long but productive day. My final bit of work is arts and crafts. I make a lovely sign for the kidlets Christmas party.
3 Heading home the roads aren't much better. It was a night of freezing rain and very slick roads. Mr P likes to play in the snow so I bite my tongue when he uses the emergency brake to turn a corner here or there.
4 Breakfast with Santa
5 Izzy says to Santa, "I love you Santa," and he replies, "I love you too Isabelle, from the minute you were born." She suddenly is quiet and unsure of what to say next, but he quickly gives her a colouring book and chocolate and all is well again.
6 There was a magic show and she says her favourite part was when he put some ripped up paper into his mouth and pulled out this very long coloured paper. Kes liked the silver rings trick.

Thursday 4 December 2014

warm, warmer, crafty and craftier

1 It was cold at work yesterday so today I brought a big thick sweater. I wore it most of the day and felt grateful that I was toasty.
2 A big bowl of hot and sour soup. I love making this one. It's quick, easy and has just enough heat to make the upper lip sweat.
3 Making Christmas gifts is what I've wanted to do for some time now. Today, I got my supplies for a couple of the projects and got started. Woo hoo! Once again I'm out of my comfort zone.
4 Sending big hugs and warm wishes for a great, successful craft fair this weekend Sam!

Wednesday 3 December 2014

work, rub it in, what's for dinner, time, phones, surprise me, and G

1 Work, work, work. Between the three casual jobs there just isn't enough down time. I'm determined to make some.
2 We had massage appointments tonight. Me first, then Mr P. Her hands touched my back and instantly I knew she was the perfect fit for me. My upper back has been giving me grief for a while now, so this is a start to healing.
3 P made me some pies. Apple, pumpkin and two lemon meringue. OMG, what a baker! We had pie for dinner!
4 We enjoy our time driving to and from work together. With only one car at the moment we have to be creative and so he drives me, does his errands, heads home to help the neighbour cut a tree or two and then picks me up.
5 We get our phones at Costco because we really like their return policy. I've had my phone sent in three times so they said they would be replacing it but when we get there the replacement is malfunctioning. I'm starting to freak out in my head, when all of a sudden the clerk says to me, "Come with me. Pick out any phone you like and we'll replace this one." Awesome!
6 Mr P has a wonderful surprise for me when we get home. He really likes having a shop and the move to this home has left him with only our double garage for a shop. Needless to say he's cleaned out half of it for me to park my car! Yay, no more sweeping and scraping, no more hauling kids and groceries in the cold and wind. I'm so blessed. Thankful for this special man.
6a G, I sure hope we can catch up soon. I received a lovely card from my best friend and yes, it was perfect, perfect timing and yes, I had a big smile.

Monday 1 December 2014

Sunday, Monday

1 Izzy was really concerned that Grampa wouldn't be able to land at the airport. As we drove there she made up an amazing story about getting a little red and white plane and rescuing Grampa if his plane was in trouble. I asked her if she knew how to fly and plane and she responded with, "I have my license but I could use a little practice!"
2 Mr P is happy but tired and cold after a long flight in a very cold plane. He cranks the heat up to 28C and we break out in a sweat much sooner than I would have thought.
3 Peanut butter bars for Grampa!
4 Grampa takes the grandkidlets to a preschool program called Strong Start today. He says they both loved it and that Izzy was a real leader, Kes was happy playing in the rice table and with the marbles.
5 Baby it's cold out there. -15 C Yesterday the sun worked very hard to push through the clouds...here is what it looked like from our bedroom window.
6 The grand kids have gone home and the house is cleaned, and there is a strange quiet.

Saturday 29 November 2014

Friday and Saturday

1 A  freak snowstorm means we rush down to the store to get eggs and other ingredients for our cookie baking. But we didn't know about the scheduled power outage so we are again in the dark. This time it's 10 - 2, not too bad.
2 Their favourite show tonight is Justin Time. Very cute little cartoon with good stories and meanings.Justin Time
3 Our story tonight is Love You Forever. She likes me to sing the song to her and each time I do she snuggles in closer. Kesler misses it all, he's already asleep.
4 Sugar cookies with Isabelle and Kesler. They are both excellent at the icing part!

5 My oldest son comes for dinner. He's been on his own for a few days while the kids have been with me. He's greeted with big love.
6 A few minutes of quiet time to clean up and write this blog. I've been reminded of how valuable that can be.

Thursday 27 November 2014

Monday through Thursday

1 Learning the ropes at the Rec Center. Wow, great place to work if you like laid back. I spend the morning learning point of sale, checking in seniors for pickle ball and just settling in.
2 The house is warm when I get home. I only worked a half day so it was noon and the house hadn't cooled yet.
3 Setting the thermostat to do it's thing just how I like it means that it's 'perfect for me' any time of day or not. At least until Mr P gets home on Sunday.
4 Day two of training and I find myself working on my own. Someone has gone home sick so I'm tossed into the deep end again!
5 I love the Dollar Store. Always lots of fun things there and at such low prices. Perfect for picking up craft supplies for the grand kids..
6 My hair is shorter than I expected again! I think I'll have to be more assertive with my stylist next time. I like how he colours but he just can't seem to let me have it long.
7 The power went out late last night. Thankfully I woke up before the alarm and go myself to work on time. Turns out we were the only facility with a generator so we worked and everyone else got to go home! We spent the morning supplying the public works staff with hot coffee and a place to warm up and decorating one of several Christmas trees.
8

9 The grand kids and i get to spend time together. It's been a while since they've had a sleep over and so it took a few extra rounds of the song I sing to them. It won't be long before they won't want me to tuck them in so I'm cherishing these moments together.
10 Kes and Izzy go to story time at the library today. She finds it difficult to sit still but eventually settles a bit more. I think with time she'll figure it out. Kes on the other hand just loved the carpet that's covered in letters from the alphabet and couldn't contain his enthusiasm :)
11
12 The snow is melting and tonight it's warm out. Tomorrow the forecast is for all this lovely white to be encased in a deep freeze.

Saturday 22 November 2014

two for you

1 There's something special about walking in the cold weather. I feel like a young girl again when I watch how the steam from my breath curls and dances away.
2 I'm so tired that I don't even remember falling asleep.
3 There's a strange noise outside. The wind is howling and the chimes are playing but this is a strange scraping sound. I hear it a couple of times and then decide I should investigate. I open the door to the deck and the sound makes me turn my head quickly and I see it. The noisemaker. The wind is so fierce that it's moving the lawn chair across the deck and I'm so close it that I can see it and catch my breath as it stops about a foot from my feet.
4 Up and out of here early. It's time for the craft fair. Only time for one cuppa java and it's time to roll.
5 Sam makes it so fun. I'm a novice at craft fairs, In fact, it's my first time and I'm a little unsure, okay, more than a little. But she's patient and kind and I find it's much more social than I'd imagined.
6 I love my new mug that I bought as a gift for myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and doing something new. Sam is the artist who has created this loveliness. I love her work. It's in a word, extraordinary .

Thursday 20 November 2014

craftiness, options, thanks, and please don't blow me over

1 It's been more than a few days of organizing and printing, signing and more organizing. Just about done and ready for Saturday's craft fair. (I have no idea how to put this together but I'm tryin'!) It's the first time I've ever participated in a craft fair so I'm excited about the process and so pleased to spend time with Sam.
2 Feeling pretty good knowing that I've got work options for the holidays. Mr P says he's home for the holidays so perhaps there should be an adjustment in the thought process on this one.
3 Thanks to K for the arthritis supplements she brought to share with me Here's hoping they provide some well needed relief.
4 The wind blows my car all over the road on the way home tonight  Even now it's not settling down but continues to howl and rattles the wind chimes.

Wednesday 19 November 2014

getting it done, shopping, and keep it together will ya

1 I think I have lots of time until I change my plans and then I'm scrambling to get anything done! But most of it's done.
2 Christmas shopping for the grandkidlets for books, clothes and an extra special battery operated guitar for Isabelle. I'm sure we'll all be ready for a battery extraction but the end of Christmas day!
3 I like working with J. She's pretty down to earth and I really enjoy her sense of humour. Our work atmosphere is casual, hilarious at times but we manage to stay professional even when we are holding back laughter!

Tuesday 18 November 2014

sleep patterns, plaid, and connected

1 And by the way, what is up with not sleeping? It's an interesting phenomenon to wake from a short nap and then have sleep be elusive. Last night the fire lulled me into slumber and later when I couldn't sleep, a boring book lulled me again.
2 A simple blue and red plaid shirt that will be perfect for work. Layering is perfect for this time of year.
3 Mr P and I both giggle over the silliest of things. It's one of those moments that just connects us together even though we're hundreds of kilometers apart.

Monday 17 November 2014

too early, the office, and dining

1 I wake up when it's dark and start to get ready for work but after a few minutes I get the feeling I'm on the wrong shift. A quick call to work sets me straight and I head back to sleep for a few more hours.
2 The office is a combination of hilarity and shenanigans.
3 Dinner with L and a couple of her friends. Lovely to meet new people and see someone in the 'real' world instead of at work. Very entertaining!

Saturday 15 November 2014

the week in review

1 Gaile and family are here for the evening and she's spending two extra days with me. We talk, laugh, eat, drink and shop, watch movies and give and get best friend hugs. Perfect!
2 Our early dinner was amazing, delicious and just the right amount for each of us. The restaurant decor is a combination of soft comfy seats, concrete and huge, and I mean HUGE light fixtures. I'll be sure to post a photo next time we eat there.
3 It's cold and windy but we quickly find our spots near the fireplace.
4 A heated blanket for keeping warm. It's been on a chair for many years but now moves about the house, warming me.
5 The sun shines so brightly that we have to close the blinds to see each other while we chat about just about everything.
6 Morning comes early and with it a sliver of sunshine through the foggy clouds.
7 The grandkidlets and I make chocolate cake with tons of icing and star sprinkles for their daddy and mommy.
8 Kesler slowly and deliberately spreads the icing on the cake and then all of a sudden his fingers are covered in icing and he plunges them into his mouth to lick every last bit.
9 Two grandkidlets with chocolate icing on their cheeks, noses and lips.
10 Another friend comes for a visit and we enjoy Thai food and green tea until we float out of the restaurant and head home to talk into the night. So good to catch up.
11 It's so cold you can see your breath.
12 I think I'm falling in love. Yes, you heard me right, I love toasted blueberry bagels smothered in cream cheese.
13 Voted.
14 The lady at the polling station looks at my ID and says yes, you're fine. And I smile and reply, "Yes I am fine" and we laugh at how that sounds.
15 The skies are a pinkish hue now but each time I look out the window the shade is different until it's just blackness.

Monday 10 November 2014

third time's a charm?, sleepyheads, and special visitors

1 Cell phone saga. My cell phone is in need of repairs yet again and it's frustrating me to no end. I get a loaner phone for the third time and this one is the worst of the bunch. I think it's at least 10 years old and doesn't even do photo attachments on text messages! Too funny, I think I'll use an old beast we have lying around here.
2 Izzy and Kes come for a visit but he's sleeping before we get home and then she asks to go to sleep It must be the cold weather making us all sleepy.
3 Gaile is coming tonight! So looking forward to seeing her and her hubby and grandson. Should be a fun evening if we can all stay awake! :)

Sunday 9 November 2014

rethinking, building, forgiveness and junk food junkie (at least for tonight)

1 I like the way he's thinking while he's away. His focus is on being healthy, working out and not the monotonous routine of daily camp life.
2 A conversation. A conversation where we share things just between us and know that our trust is building a very special friendship.
2a Sometimes it takes a little perspective to see where another person is coming from. Mr P and I have both experienced sharp words and ridicule at the hand of someone dear to us. We have a choice, bitterness or forgiveness? We both choose to forgive; lessons learned will not be forgotten.
3 Nacho chips with salsa and sour cream. Could my dinner have been more decadent? Okay, I added a few pieces of chocolate just to be sure that it was!

Saturday 8 November 2014

thursday, friday and saturday

1 Another day of rest. I'm so grateful that I can rest and recover from this icky flu/cold that's gotten hold of me.
2 How nice to get messages about our book club gathering. We had so much fun, eating, drinking and finally talking about books, and some rather risque media news here in Canada.
3 The night ends with a chat with my dear friend J. She's the kind of person that I would describe as 'real'.
4 No rest for the weary and we are busy with the work, work and more work.
5 The grandkidlets come to spend some time with us and for a sleepover. Both of them haven't been here for a while for sleepovers so this is exciting for us all. Kesler seems to adjust easier that our little miss, but soon she's figuring things out
6 Mr P is busy installing more cameras on the house We are secure. Now we just have to figure out a few specific configurations and we're done.
7 Izzy tells us that every day at the park is a fun day Today's no exception and we have fun in the leaves again.
8 Gaile is coming! So very happy we can spend time together. Not sure for how long, but it doesn't matter as long as we get to see each other.
9 I'm pondering in my head, why I am not taking my big camera out with me more often. More thinking is needed, I'll get back to you.

Wednesday 5 November 2014

grandkidlets, redone, and book club

1 Izzy and Kesler come for a short visit today. They had been at our house for an hour before I arrived home from shopping and she's so excited to see me that she can't sit still in her chair one minute longer and runs over to give me a big hug. Kesler is too busy eating mac and cheese but later I get a bit of a hug and then it's off to nap time for them both.
2 Coffee table remade done! It was a wood table that I repainted black and put black and white photographs under glass!
3 Dinner with Book Club! Tonight it was my turn to host and it ended up being a great evening for all of us. A few came early, some came late with lots of laughs, great food and my book, well some liked it, some found it depressing and a few even rethought it.
3a Here's an appetizer recipe that Helen brought. It was A-MAZ_ING!

Creamy Shrimp Scampi

8 oz. Medium shrimp
4 garlic cloves
2 tsp fresh parsley
2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
3 Tbsp mayo not miracle whip
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
2 Tbsp butter
4 oz. Cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup white wine
Method:
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly oil a 9 inch baking dish. Melt butter in skillet over medium high heat. Add shrimp, garlic, red pepper flakes. Cook until shrimp turns pink stirring occasionally about 2 minutes. Stir in wine, lemon juice and season to taste with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer, remove from heat and stir in cream cheese, sour cream, mayo, parsley, 1/4 cup mozzarella and the parmesan. Spread mixture in the prepared pan, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top. Place in oven and bake until bubbly and golden brown. 10- 12 minutes.

Tuesday 4 November 2014

Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday

1,2 3 Work seems to be the consuming topic of late. I am busy with a new job and doing two sets of training. Not sure which of the 4 jobs I will keep but I'm giving myself just a bit of time to figure it all out. To be sure though, switchboard stays, the rest...well I have to think hard about what works, what doesn't and why.
4 He makes a good dinner of garlic smashed potatoes/yams, salad, roasted stuffed portobello mushrooms, and steak! Oh yes, apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert.
5 I miss the grandkidlets. Tomorrow we will have them for a few hours while their parents work on some stuff around their home. I think it'll be a park day if nice, otherwise maybe the library or just crafts here.
6 She's coming for a visit soon and it can't come soon enough!
7 Book club is tomorrow and I'm not even close to being prepared for hosting it. Tomorrow I can throw it all together if I make my lists tonight.
8 Margaret Laurence's The Stone Angel is the book I've chosen for our group.
9 Here's my book review.

The Stone Angel, by Margaret Laurence

This book will NOT be for everyone. If you're looking for a quick escape, lots of action or a strong romance, this is not the book you want. However, if you enjoy books that aren't your usual fare and are strong on psychological tension, this is a good choice.

I loved this story of an elderly woman, who is a rather judgmental, cantankerous person. I like novels that show how a person grows and changes and I find slow change to be most believable and true to life, as it is in this book.

It might be easy to see Hagar Shipley's life as being rather ordinary, even dull. But I didn't – she was married to a man she eventually saw as inferior and coarse, her relationships with her children, her desire to make a proper home and better herself - were all quite realistic to me. Sometimes, I was filled with sadness and pity, sometimes I laughed out loud, and sometimes, I just wanted to shake some sense into her. As she becomes increasingly frail and dependent on her son and daughter-in-law, she also comes to see her life in a different way. Hagar's struggle with her own painful life memories as she tries to protect her independence and maintain her pride is quite heartrending.

It is a reminder of the hardships of past generations; how foolish pride is, and how it stands in the way of freedom and happiness.

10 I stay home from work today and just rest. So welcome, so needed. I've only had 3 days off in three weeks!
11 Mr P eats the soup I have made and I eat the salad he made. Funny, how food someone else cooks always tastes better.
12 I'm sitting in the living room imagining the new sectional we will have here one day. Not yet, we haven't found the 'right' one. But soon.

Friday 31 October 2014

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

1 Waking up in the dark is difficult but coffee certainly helps the process.
2 He has a very low key day and even though he's had naps and sleep he's still tired and recovering from his weeks away.
3 Yes, there are leftovers for one last day!
4 The grandkidlets come for the day and we take them to two parks and manage to bake angel food cupcakes and oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.
5 She's never happy to go home but today there's the promise of getting ready for Halloween for her to look forward to.
6 Kes is certainly enjoying playing with trains. Today he's focusing on books about trains.
7 I love how they gently drift to sleep. After lunch I get out the story book and the three of us lie on their bed. She lifts her arm over her head and I know she's almost asleep and Kes curls on his side.
8 A sheepskin rug is laid in front of our fireplace. The grandkidlets love it and rub their backs and tummy's on the softness.
9 It is what it is for today. Some days are just like that.
10 She loves her costume so much that she had been wearing it since noon he said, but our grandson was much happier without his. She was a princess and he was a dragon! Both very adorable.
11 Dinner with family in a lovely Italian restaurant with good conversation and a bit of catching up. Mr P's brother is doing a course about an hour from our home and so its' a quick trip for us.
12 Nothing else went as planned. He's grumpy and has isolated himself in the downstairs office. Alone time can often be just what we need to 'get over things."

Monday 27 October 2014

Good times~

1 He's home and we get a chance to spend the day together. Lots of errands to run and lots gets done but it's the unplanned stuff that's extra fun!
2 A little hole in the wall sushi place turns out to have amazingly delicious food. It's a mom and pop business and there are even little children in the kitchen. Mom asks if it's okay and we both smile and nod. Of course!
3 Doobie Brothers were amazing tonight. We are in seats in the upper section and it's LOUD. I am so grateful that Mr P had the forethought to bring ear plugs for us both! No ringing in our ears and truth be told, they sounded my better with the plugs in!
3a When they came out for an encore and I heard China Grove, I couldn't sit one more minute, I jumped up and danced along with the thousands of others! It was awesome!

Saturday 25 October 2014

4 days done

1 The morning brings mist, fog, and eventually rain! The grass is greening up despite the fact that it's autumn.
2 I feel warm and fuzzy in my new bulky knit sweater. It's big, baggy, and beyond comfortable. It's my new go to sweater.
3 I'm still training in admitting and am enjoying the people I work with very much.
4 Do I like the work? Not really, but if it gets me seniority, I'll do it!
5 A good night's sleep means that I am clear headed for the next set of training sessions. This time it's an afternoon shift and a new trainer. She is incredibly meticulous and has great attention to detail.
6 One more time, and then I'm back to my switchboard job. It's been interesting to see and learn a new department and then come back and appreciate what I have.
7 Izzy and Kes come for a brief before I go to work. As we are leaving it's a bit of chaos and she says to me, "Grama, that's the shortest visit ever!"
8 My brain is overloaded and I get a wicked headache but I push through it and finally it's over.
9 Work is done and it's time to get home and unwind! No wine tonight but a fire and cup of tea work just fine.
10  Mr P is home tomorrow! xo
11 My bed feels deliciously cool and welcoming. I love clean sheets, the smell, the feel, the way my body melts into softness.
12 At one point tonight the winds blowing are so strong that the wind chimes sound overly loud and  like an out of tune instrument but eventually they settle and are melodic and soothing again.

Tuesday 21 October 2014

bits and pieces

1 I've been putting in a lot of hours at work and it's definitely paying off. Feeling confident and capable and sometimes even, dare I say it, relaxed!
2 The house is clean and shiny and smells like layers of lemon. It's the fragrance of the soap and the furniture polish that's drifting in the air.
3 Outside it's a combination of rain, wind, clouds and blue sky. Mother Nature is a wee bit confused today.
4 The colours of nature are bright and cheery compared with the dryness of summer in our desert paradise.
5 We did a hard prune on a tree in the back and it opened up our view dramatically.
6 I try my best to sit back and watch things unfold but eventually I speak my mind.
7 I must be doing something right, my clothes are just a teeny bit looser. Or maybe it's just stress.
8 The new training is easier than I expected. Possibly that's because I've had this training earlier in the year. Different facility but same workload.
9 I start the day in the dark. Pitch black but by the time I get to leave it's sunny, warm and welcoming.
10 I miss my girls! There is something special about the girls from swb and I'm appreciating them more and more every day. Oh, how I wish I had more work there.
11 Mr P is home on Sunday and we talk about our plans for the next two weeks. A few things are planned but mostly we'll just hang out, hike and putter. I like that plan.
12 I catch myself being very negative today. A friend's husband points it out to me, in a kind and gentle way. I need to regroup.

Wednesday 15 October 2014

timing is everything, warmed up, and let's talk

1 Oh, it felt so good to get out in the fresh air and walk and run especially after that wicked headache yesterday. Sometimes I am fast, some bits were slow but all in all it was the perfect rhythm for today.

2 The house is dark and cold and it's just me here. Mr P calls and soon we're talking about how he's home in a week and a half and I'm warm again.
3 It's wonderful that we share a similar sense of humour. I love talking to my son and hearing about his day, driving adventures and what the grandkidlets have been up to. It's good to hear a smile in his voice again.

Tuesday 14 October 2014

good morning sleepy head, ouch, and quiet please

1 The grandkidlets wake up later than usual. Kesler is up, fed and dressed by about 8 but Isabelle sleeps in until 9! We make quick time of it to get her ready for her Daddy to pick them up. He's got a busy day so it's a quick hello and out the door they go.
2 Ouch, my head. It's been a while since I've suffered with a bad migraine but today it rears its ugly head. It's extra bright out today so I pull the curtains in the bedroom and sleep from 11 fo 12:30 then from 1:30 to 3:30 and again from 5 to 6:20. My headache is easing up but I still feel rough. It's only 7:30 but I think it's almost time for bed again.
3 Some of the sounds around me are rhythmic and soothing like the ticking of the clock, the wind chimes and the wind itself. I desperately need stillness and quiet to heal my head.

Monday 13 October 2014

an assortment of gratitude

1 Saturdays often bring with it grandkidlets for sleep overs and today is not exception. They're ready for a visit with backpacks, extra jackets, and this time their bikes!
2 Isabelle and I set up a little obstacle course for her to ride around. She's happy to practice going in big circles.
3 It's a great schedule that works for them. Izzy knows when the clock hands are 9 and 12 it's time for bed. Not that she likes it, but she at least knows.
4 We pick up Grampa at the airport. Kes is sleeping by the time we get there but Izzy is wide awake still and so thrilled to see him. She runs to him with open arms and he gently scoops her up for a big bear hug.
5 The pumpkin patch and corn maze are where we head from the airport. It's all geared for the kids so we enjoy corn maze, hay maze, a little tractor pull, farm animals, corn toss and  a giant hay spider to climb on!
6 The week has flown by. Sorry to say there's be so little time to post.
7 Thanksgiving dinner today. We especially enjoy having a sleepover with the grandkidlets.
and a few photos to catch up on postings.

Friday 3 October 2014

class is in, parking problems, and who's that?

1 My class is exceptional today and there is lots to learn. The focus is on dealing with manipulation and criticism and handling it in a variety of work and personal situations. Great for my job!
2 Parking is a premium and some days it's much more difficult than others. One day it's a five minute walk to a building, the next it's five feet from the entrance and Friday it's the parkade...go figure!
3 I am barely in the door and Mr P calls. It's so funny because I know he's watching me on the house cameras. Is he stalking me?

Thursday 2 October 2014

taking it slowly, helpful, and get yer butt home

1 Do you like mornings when you have the time to just putter about, gather your things and slowly make your way to work? Me too.
2 She helped me with ideas for the problem and then later she forwarded a message to me along with emailing kudos to our staff and supervisor for a job well done. I couldn't have done it without her, or without the help of the whole team. Feeling grateful.
3 Mr P is home on Sunday. He's already packed and that's no surprise to either of us. Hurry home hon!

Wednesday 1 October 2014

as the days go by

1 The kidlets end up spending Sunday night with me as well. It's fun to have them here. They fall quickly into routine and seem to anticipate what's next! I'll have to mix it up a bit, I don't want to be too predictable.
2 The weather is cooler these days. It's sweater time but the little ones seem to still run hot.
3 Warm chocolate milk is what they get before bed. Not so great for teeth so I also give them a bit of warm water to rinse with!
4 Work is busy, busy, busy.
5 There's one woman that I work with who I've always been intimidated by. It's funny that this phenomenon exists for me because it's unusual for me to feel this way. As we work more and more together, that feeling is dissipating as I see her as just herself.
6 Jeans jackets are great, especially when it's the only piece of jean you're wearing. They schooled me; only one jean piece at a time!
7 We get slammed and slammed and slammed at work. It's not really that there are more admissions but for some reason it feels like more emergencies. We pull together and get it done but the porters we work with look exhausted by the end of their shifts.
8 He loves the alphabet so we draw lots of circles on the driveway and put big and little letters side by side into each bubble. He gets excited when I sing to him, Big D, Little D, etc etc for each bubble. Soon he's saying some of the letters too.
9 Testing for autism and they have found no flags in the first round of testing. This is a very good sign.
10 Witches warts for the Book Club tonight.
11 There's a black out so the meeting which is about a Halloween murder mystery takes place in the dark. Spooky with laughter, food and good friends.
12 The blackout area is huge. 22,000+ people are in the dark including me. Candles soon are lit and the gas fireplace throws a lot of light! It was a long day/night so it's only one glass of wine and I'm toast.

Saturday 27 September 2014

move on, sleepover, and i love it

1 There comes a point when you have to move on. Despite the fact that it's what you imagine it might be, the reality of what actually is has to get acknowledged and accepted. At some point you have to just live your life, just live.
2 The grandkidlets are here for a sleepover. It's story time and they're eager to get into their bed in their room. She stirs for a bit and after I sing the song a couple of times she's sleeping. He is still awake when I leave the room but comfy and ready for sleep too. I check on them after a few minutes and they're both asleep, back to back. I bet by morning they'll be foot to foot or side by side again.
3 My hair is perfect! I went back to get a few more foils and it's exactly what I wanted and he says he knew it too! My hairdresser is amazing and I'm more than pleased that he finished the colours at no charge!

Friday 26 September 2014

wednesday, thursday, friday

1 The days have changed from warm and balmy to cool and rainy; the leaves are changing colour and sadly the hummingbirds have gone south. Fall has arrived.
2 Only a few flower pots are left but their colours are still vibrant and welcome.
3 Note to self: use a chair when hanging up sharp twirly gigs! No stitches.
4 Mr P has been doing lots of after work things to make his time in camp bearable. He going to a coach and is encouraged by their conversation and even has some homework.
5 After not working the switchboard for a couple of weeks it's nice to get back to it. A few brain glitches and it's all good.
6 My hairdresser decides it's time to darken my hair. It's too dark but Saturday he'll add more lighter pieces and hopefully it'll be what we both like.
7 A successful shopping trip and I have a few new fall sweaters and yoga pants for work. I like looking stylish yet feel comfortable at work. It's a challenge to sit that long in tight pants!
8 I'm so grateful for my husband. We have created a home space that just work so well for us.
9 She's invited me to participate in two craft fairs this fall. One in November and one in December. I'll be framing some photographs and perhaps creating a few postcards/greeting cards. Exciting!

Tuesday 23 September 2014

dry, Chris, and night

1 I had a walk at the lakefront before the clouds shrouded the sun and sent buckets of rain down.
2 Chris visited for a bit today. He's lost weight and is looking great. So nice to just see his face and give him a hug or two or more!
3 It's cold and damp out now but the fireplace is on and I've got a glass of red wine, my feet are up and the day is done.

Monday 22 September 2014

Sunday and Monday's notes

1 The grandkidlets and I spend the afternoon together. First it's a trip to Costco, followed by a visit to the hospital to visit some of the girls I work with, then home to play and read and finally to snuggle and sleep.
2 He loves mac and cheese and she's hooked on fish (she thinks it's tuna and there's no convincing her otherwise!)
3 She comes this close to a melt down, then pulls it together and manages to settle herself.
4 It's a wet and cool day so what better way to play than to get out the big blue and white umbrella and make a tent!
5 She loves that umbrella and the fact that she's able to walk around the deck and stay dry! She must have gone back and forth at least 15 times!
6 I picked up a shift at the switchboard and it feels great being back to it after a few weeks at another job.

Saturday 20 September 2014

I am grateful

1 Before we know it a week has gone by and it feels like he's barely had time to unpack and now he's packed and gone.
2 The grandkidlets have a busy afternoon playing in the mud! Mud pie soup was on the menu.
3 He has a rough night with a snuggly nose and by morning both grandkidlets are in bed with me.
4 They love being outside so we spend the morning on the deck making tents to lie about in, read books in and picnic in.
5 A trip to the park and it's swinging, playing with little girls and racing to get to the slide first.
6 They are good helpers. She sits in the front of the cart and piles each grocery item neatly in front of her; he holds the mini crisp bag and tries desperately to open it.
7 At bedtime they snuggle for stories then she shifts to a spot of her own. He's at the top of the bed and she's reverse at the bottom. Feet to feet! I remember doing the very same thing with my sister but with more angst!
8 It's time for baking and my helpers are the very best at pouring things, putting the cupcake holders into the tin, filling those tins and best of all eating the batter off of their spoons.
9 When it's time to decorate the cupcakes they put some candies on the cupcakes and more in their mouths. I give them each the choice of an iced and candied cupcake or plain. Surprisingly (or maybe not), they choose plain.
10 After work I go to Winners, just to look around, I tell myself. The bag is full of pjs, socks, underwear and a book or two.
11 Three days of work and I'm finished this particular rotation for a while. Everyone's holidays are over and the first temp gets priority for workload coverage.
12 A part time job posting has come up at the hospital switchboard. I apply and now it's the waiting game. It would be lovely to have a set schedule instead of being always on call.
13 Sometimes we need support, The kind of support that mom's give.
14 Sunrise
15 Feeling grateful for the day and the quiet.
16 What a joy to sit in the shade on the deck and just read.
17 Legos, doll houses, tea sets and umbrellas are fun to put away, for now.
18 He's strong and he can do this.
19 Winds blow the umbrella right out of its stand. I fiddle with it for a while and eventually it is snug and secure.
20 A sunny and warm weekend so far. The skies were blue and cloudless.
21 He likes what he hears and says he felt validated hearing it.

Saturday 13 September 2014

odds and ends, read this, and fun with water

1 A day of puttering around the house and yard with Mr P. He installs another camera in the lower back of the house, mows the lawn, we moved the fountain into the rock garden and cleaned up all the front driveway area.
2 It's funny to hear a man say, "We could read the instructions!"
3 The grandkidlets play around in the bucket of soapy water. First they wash the toys, and then they wash the car. Well, actually Izzy washed the car and Kesler wanted to eat the cloth!

Friday 12 September 2014

late but not late, stew, and it fits

1 No one remembered that I was in class Friday mornings and the office was in a bit of chaos. Still, they managed to muddle through and once I arrived (just like the cavalry, okay maybe that's a wee bit of an exaggeration?) things were soon put to right.
2 He makes a lamb stew with lamb chops, beets, some fancy cabbage thingy, carrots and a salad dressing marinade. I was skeptical but it turned out rather yummy.
3 Skinny jeans sometimes really do make you look thinner. These ones are dark blue and sit higher on the hips. Mr P like them.

Thursday 11 September 2014

one day, one moment at a time

It's been a while and I haven't been posting or reading anyone else's posts. Things are a little hectic here and I was finding it impossible to focus on the blog. I took a bit of a break. Thanks for sticking with me.

1 The sun shines delicately through the sheer curtains and lands exactly on my eye.
2 I hear their laughter and wonder at the inner workings of the brain of a little child.
3 There are chalk drawings and hop scotch patterns all over the concrete driveway.
4 The wind rhythmically blows the tree top back and forth in perfect timing.
5 The hug is tight and consuming and I pray that there is compassion felt from it.
6 In the cycle of life, we often are challenged with change. It's not an easy thing for some especially when it's unexpected, unwanted and out of our control.
7 The stroller holds two. But wow, those two are getting big and they feel even heavier coming uphill than going downhill.
8 One night he goes to sleep easily and then the other she finds it difficult. One just wants to wiggle around until sleep, the other wants a back rub and some tenderness.
9 I long for normal, natural and real.

Tuesday 2 September 2014

thank you, big rains, and new target

1 I'm so thankful to my dear friend G, who is always, always there for me. Today she takes extra time to listen to me while she's making dinner.
2 All of a sudden I hear a loud noise outside. It's unfamiliar and hasn't been heard for ages. It's a downpour that's got the full force of Mother Nature behind it.
3 I think this It Works, Skinny Wrap is actually working! Yes, two inches gone and a flat tummy. Hmm, I'm definitely trying this on another problem area. I'm documenting it all.

Monday 1 September 2014

labour, beach ave, and pets

1 Labour Day in Canada is usually marked with days off for employees and with celebrating the union movement. From the people who brought us the weekend.. thanks!
2 Beach Avenue is my go to spot lately. I love walking and running down there. It's flat and paved and has the most amazing views. I can't seem to get enough...Maybe we'll have to move closer to the beach?!
3 Pet Playmates

Sunday 31 August 2014

alone, kuma, yuki, and wrap me up

1 I walk alone along the 5km stretch of beach enjoying the companionship of myself and concentrate on each step. I count each step over and over in a type of mantra until I am done and there is no more to count, no steps to walk and my mind is still.
2 Kuma is having fun in the newly cut backyard. He has accumulated an assortment of sticks and likes to chew on them so I get him some rawhide bones to chew on instead. I think he's alternating now and I'm wondering if he's going to end up burying some of them for later.
2a Yuki the Siamese cat finds this new bone chewing fascinating. He watches for a bit them decides to stalk the dog. He sits in the pounce position for a bit then suddenly jumps out at the dog who calmly turns his back on the cat.
3 It works, skinny wraps are all the rage and I decide to try it too. I do a long bath and then after I am air dried I put on the wrap and let it do it's magic. I rarely do these sorts of things but curiosity has gotten the better of me. I've take measurements and photos so we will see if this really does work! I'm not sure I'll ever post before and after photos, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Saturday 30 August 2014

Saturday, family, and connected

1 Saturdays really can go either way, can't they? Either it's super productive or it's a lazy bones type of day. Today I'm in clean and purge mode. Not really that much left to purge but still sometimes there are just those 'things' that have no use and need to get gone!
2 A young mom cradles her young babe while the dad pushes the stroller. The world around them is moving but they are fully absorbed in each other and their new wee one as they look at the precious bundle mom is holding and then quickly glance at each other.
3 An older couple enjoy a picnic at the beach. They both sit on the same side of the table facing the water and their elbows touch every now and then connecting them.

Friday 29 August 2014

Thursday and Friday ~

1 Work today is fun! Every now and again we have a day that isn't quite as hair raising as usual and today was like that. We have a chance to talk to each other and the flow is even and not overwhelming. A few new codes today but all handled well and everyone taken care of.
2 The skies are changing. It's definitely the end of summer. The air is cooler, winds crisper and some trees are looking ready to shed their leaves.
3 There are a group of ravens on the roof of the house making quite the ruckus. They're in the gutters looking for food but scatter as soon as the door opens.
4 Kuma and I got to hang out a bit. He's a cutie pie but not yet house trained. Lots of watching and lots of time outside! If you have any suggestions for quick potty training of puppies please let me know! Thanks~
5 It's difficult to be positive when a heart is heavy. Today it was my challenge to be strong, positive and present.
6 A feast of tomatoes awaits them in their fridge when they return from holidays. So nice to see that they have had a successful mini garden this summer.

Monday 25 August 2014

Kuma, tasks at hand, restfulness

1 Kuma and I spend time together today. He's a sweet corgi pup who has darker colouring. He follows me everywhere and loves putting his chin on my foot. He soaks up the attention.
2 I focus on keeping myself occupied with tasks today. I fold and put away oodles and oodles of laundry, mow and rake the lawns and bathe Kuma after he finds a muddy hole to play in.
3 After all the days activities my body aches in that good way it feels when it's been exercised to its fullest. My mind shuts off too and I find myself twitching so I slip between the bed covers and welcome sleep.

Sunday 24 August 2014

amber, walk, conversationalist, and focus

1 I have purchased two bracelets today that are made from Baltic amber. Apparently it has healing properties and will help with osteoarthritis pain. I'm not sure if it's just an idea that's been planted in my head but it doesn't really matter if the pain is lessened, does it?
2 Running was on the agenda but a sore leg means it's a brisk walk instead.
2a It's fun to stop and talk to everyone from the market vendors to a neighbour walking her dog, to young man who is polite and charming despite his obvious challenges.
3 It's important to keep the focus on where it really matters.

Saturday 23 August 2014

tomorrow, missing you, and it is what it is

1 All I can do is be there, be a listener, and love him through the pain. Tomorrow is a new day.
2 I miss the grandkidlets. Izzy has fairy wings waiting for her, and Kes has a new helicopter waiting for him.
3 My friend tells me, "it will be as good as it can be."

Friday 22 August 2014

Wednesday through Friday

 - some days are just more difficult than others, but we make it through, we always do ~
~ best loves ~

1 It's been a busy week with lots going on, some good and some  not so good. So I'm grateful for family and friends who support, love and encourage me.
2 I guess that's life in a work camp. Exposure to lots of people with lots of germs. Mr P is fighting a summer cold. (Aren't they just the worst?). What's my prescription? Lots of sleep, vitamin C, hot tea with honey and lemon followed by more sleep.
3 She's lost 100 pounds this year. So proud of my new friend and so encouraged by her dedication and commitment to getting healthier.
Scribbles by Sandy Here's my friend Sandy's blog where she shares her scribbles, doodles and images. I love her creativity and the creations that people are making using these images in Scribble Challenges. ps I love the anklet! Thanks again S!
5 I need a distraction so I clean. I know you might be groaning but hey it's not for everyone I admit that but for me it works. Five hours later and many loads of laundry I put my feet up and my mind is still.
6 Back to running/walking. Yup, I'm back to it and as I get into the rhythm I feel my feet hit the pavement, the wind on my cheeks and the sun on my back and remember why I love it so much.
7 The days have been cooler for the past few days. Big stormy clouds have covered the skies bringing well needed rains and wind. Winds are different here, softer and with less gusts compared to the island where it's big winds and loud sounds.
8 They need some help and it's what I can do. So I try as best I can to put the house in order, get the laundry done and iron a few work clothes for C so his transition to work once they're home from holidaying will be smoother.
9 Ever have a song come to mind just when you need it? Today that song for me is from the Beatles, "Let it Be" I smile, shed a few tears and let it rush over me. Let it be.

Tuesday 19 August 2014

twitch, grow, and morning yoga

1 I enjoy listening and watching my second son in his twitch account as a professional gamer. He has followers and subscribers and even a sponsor. His signature is that he wears a variety of hats. Rice paddy hat, Chinese logo hat, Native headdress, Egyptian king and more! He's very entertaining, interacting with his peers and generally funny.
2 Working in the garden or with plants is therapeutic for me. This morning I put a few more plants into the ground from pots. Most are root bound and I'm thinking they'll enjoy spreading out their roots.
3 I get my 3 errands done early so today it's yoga on the deck. It's warm and slightly overcast and during savasana I drift into a light sleep.

Monday 18 August 2014

two of a kind, memories, and more than enough

1 The sound of trickling water in our ever so small water fountain is soothing and rhythmical. Tonight it creates a duet with the wind chimes. It is magical.
2 It's not always easy being brought back to images and memories in our past. It can rob us of the now but it can also bring us together by sharing. Big hugs my friend.
3 It's funny I've thought of myself as a pretty intense person until I recently met some who are WAY bigger than me. It's a good challenge to be mindful and to stay present in the midst of that type of energy. Breathe....breathe.

Sunday 17 August 2014

wake up, waterfront, and cooled down

1 It sounds like there are a million crows outside of my bedroom window! I'm guessing that's why they call it "a murder of crows!" No alarm clock needed.
2 It's time and so I head to the waterfront to get a good run in before work. I run into a couple of neighbours so it's not the intense workout that I was hoping for BUT, it was very social and that was just as good.

3 The house was very stuffy when I got home. No windows can be left open now and the ac will be just too costly to run while I'm gone for so long but it cools off within about 20 minutes and soon I'm cooled and kicking back enjoying a cold one. That was nice.

Saturday 16 August 2014

working together, blooming, and snuggle down

1 I asked for help and they all came through with assistance, information and supportive ideas. It's one of those situations where things just don't add up and once the puzzle is solved, then the puzzle re configures and it all works out. It's good to know that there is a team and that the team really takes care of each other.
2 The asters are blooming already which means that summer is on its way out. Too soon I say, too soon.
3 Clean sheets on my bed. I love the feeling of these Egyptian cotton sheets, smooth and silky and I sleep deeply and soundly.

stellar, faces, and talk to me

1 The stellar jays are visiting the water bowl this morning. They are so big that when they jump onto the dish it makes a big thud. I'm wondering if one of them will eventually tip it right over onto itself!
2 It's a busy evening but I still have some time to talk to a few new faces at work. I like getting to know the people around me and learning about their challenges and successes. What an amazing group of people.
3 Mr P gets a chance to take off his boots and unwind before we have our evening chat. I chose my second break later in the shift to accommodate him and it turns out it works better for me too!

Thursday 14 August 2014

ouch, quiet, and we talk ourselves to sleep

1 "I'll get by with a little help from my friends!" Great song and totally appropriate for today when with this wicked migraine. What helps when you're hurting? Supportive friends, quiet, darkness and crackers!
2 The quiet in the house was so welcome after a noisy day. I sat on the deck and just listened to the wind, the crickets, and later the rain falling on the deck.
3 Mr P and I talk a bit and soon the both of us are yawning and he tells me he's already in bed ready to sleep. After we hang up it's not too long before I'm there myself. The stormy weather cools the house making sleep much easier, not that I needed any help.

just me, puppy training, and let's getaway soon

1 They're off on a family trip tomorrow to California, Mr P is away working and thankfully I work the next six days as well. It's good to be busy but I think I'll enjoy some alone time as well.
2 Little Kuma will come for a few days while his parents are away. He's a wee Corgi and not quite trained yet so I'm planning to make him a space, get some pee pads and work hard to make sure he enjoys his time here too.
3 Jan and I meet up for a late lunch. It's been ages since we've seen each other, well, it's been a month but that's a long time when you live so close by. It's always a good time when we're together. We're planning a visit, at their place near the end of August for some relaxation, photography and fishing. It's been years since I've fished and I'm really looking forward to this time away.

barbie and dirt, bugs, and napping on me

1 Izzy and Kes come over to our place and spend the day with just me. Most of our time was outside except for nap time and well, I guess just nap time because we ate outside as well. Izzy loved her Barbie table and chair set that I picked up through a Facebook Used site and Kes, well let's just say he's happy with dirt and a hose.
2 Izzy spent quite a bit of time today looking for bugs to put into a jar. Using Grampa's magnifying glass she looked for clues!
3 Kesler lets me hold him like a baby when he's ready for sleep and that feels special because he usually is a shoulder guy.

Monday 11 August 2014

wave to me, art, and what kind of dinner was that?

1 It's been a long time since we've spent time apart and neither of us want to show the other just how difficult it is to say goodbye. He stands very still at the front door watching my every move as I leave for work. I look in the rear view mirror at the top of the drive and he's still there watching and with one last wave I'm around the corner and it is goodbye for now.
2  I'm working on an art project that I've thought about for a long time. And now it's time to stop the talking and start the doing. The preliminary drawings are not bad!
3 A fine dinner this was. Sushi and and ice cream sandwich for dessert...interesting combo that won't work for everyone but for tonight it's just fine.

Sunday 10 August 2014

get busy Mr, chatterbox, sleeps, and peachy keen, love him

1 Days are always busier for Mr P when he's getting ready to head away to work and this day is no exception. He gets the security cameras up and running, (I like that he put one out on the deck so he can look at the view from home when he's away), truck is fixed and we even went out to Lake Country and picked up a new to us dresser for our bedroom.
2 The grandkidlets are with us in the afternoon and we enjoy Isabelle's constant chatter. I especially enjoyed her comments about the fields of flowers we saw. She loves pink and these were row after row of lovely pinks.
2a Kesler looks very angelic sleeping in his car seat. A tiny bit of drool slips out of the side of his mouth and even in his sleep he lifts his hand and wipes it away.
3 Peaches! It's that time of year when fruits and vegetables are ripening quickly. Izzy picks some large peaches to eat right off of the tree. She delicately eats around the stone then buries it in the driveway and is so pleased with herself because as she puts it, "I made a peach tree!"
4a Chris visits with us and we have a lovely dinner together. I love that son of mine!

Gratitude

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

it just didn't work out, fire, and snazzy

1 Two days in a row we thought we would have time to see the grandkidlets but things piled up and now again no visit or sleepover. I think we have one sad little girl. Hopefully Mr P will have things done tomorrow and we'll spend a bit of time with them both.
2 The forest fire is now 25% contained and there is a perimeter of 60% so hopefully this means that the fire will be contained in the next day or so. Lil Red spends a few hours in the morning and again in the afternoon doing water runs to and from the lake to the fire area. Most of the day he's flying over our house or near it. At the moment there's a break either for the day or for refueling so it's peaceful.
3 The security cameras are almost installed. Mr P's been working on it all day and now is configuring the software. We will know via smart phone app if there is any activity showing up on the cameras. Very snazzy!

Friday 8 August 2014

oh dear, in the air, and done

1 OOPS! The phone was left on the bumper of the truck and neither of us realized it as we drove down the road. Needless to say Mr P has a new Samsung5s and darn if it doesn't have the sweetest camera.

2 The air still smells like smoke and the fire is still burning. It's traveling away from our area now but the air support is still flying overhead. Here's a bit of what it looks and sounds like with one helicopter. (In the air today there were two planes with retardant, four float planes and two helicopters).
3 It's dark now, so the air support are gone and the fire will be monitored from the ground. If the winds don't pick up the fire lines should hold.

Thursday 7 August 2014

making it work, cameras, fire on our mountain

1 I wondered what it might feel like to do a dispatch shift the entire day. It felt great! It's a short shift, it's like a game of Tetris, there are great people to work with and no big mess ups!
2 Coming home to Mr P putting up security cameras around the house. We had someone try to enter the house early in the morning....we both woke to the sound of the door opening. No one was there, but the inside light in the garage was on so Mr P is working to get things tightened up. I believe he said something about "Fort Knox!"
3 There's a forest fire on the mountainside. It's about 3 minute drive straight above us but across a highway. It's all closed off and for now the skies are quiet. We drove up to see how large it was and it's big. 30 hectares. We are safe here and feeling very grateful that the fire hasn't jumped the road. More tomorrow.

Wednesday 6 August 2014

today, rocks, and letting go

1 We make plans for the day but they take a turn for the better and pick up Izzy and Kes to spend the day with them. First we come home to make tuna melts and mac&cheese, then water park fun, naps (as always), dinner and a few episodes of Super Why before their Daddy picks them up.
2 Kesler likes to play in the water, loves throwing rocks.
3 It feels good to relax in our big bed and feel myself slowly drift off to sleep. It's an unusual feeling when you think about it. Totally giving up control of everything to dream and recharge.

Tuesday 5 August 2014

big eater, see you soon, and Mr P

1 IHOP for breakfast! What a way to start the day if you have a big appetite that is. I couldn't believe how big the portions were. My sis and I had cheese crepes, Mr P had an omelet and Jerry, well let's just say he likes breakfast. Jerry had, the sampler breakfast of eggs, hash browns, bacon and sauages accompanying his pancakes, toast and extra bacon! HOLY!
2 It was time to say goodbye and it's difficult. We don't see each other as often as we would like but now that we're only 3 1/2 hours away we can and we make the promise that we will. It's our turn to go there next. I'm really looking forward to that!
3 Mr P finds out that he doesn't start work until next week because things were delayed because of the holiday. Yay, he's not leaving until Saturday!

Monday 4 August 2014

stat, about my sister, and all together again

1 Monday is a holiday! Happy BC Day!
2 My sister is from a very small town so when she comes here visiting it's a big deal. This is the first time she's ever stayed at my home in all the years we've been adults. Either I've lived too far away or we lived close by and there was no need to. So I have the opportunity to share my home with her, share our food and share the fun. And yes, we did share a box of wine!
3 The family was all here. We filled up a tub and the kids splashed about, then we sat down to a family BBQ dinner and lastly we Skyped with Nick and Sara. So great to have us all together ~ best loves ~

Sunday 3 August 2014

Sundays, sister, and "that place"

1 Sundays are typically considered a day of rest but someone forgot to tell the world! It was a busy work day, busy highways and busy, busy, busy! Home however was not busy, it was the perfect place to be.
2 My sister and her husband came for a visit this long weekend. It's BC Day and a stat holiday  on Monday so they are spending a few days relaxing and enjoying our hot, sunny weather. Sitting on the deck, looking at the lake and just being together is exactly how we'd planned our first days visit.
3 We find a bottle of Ice Wine in the cabinet and test it out. We are a bit silly, a bit tipsy and soon find ourselves in that place of laughing at everything. One conversation goes like this, "I wonder what kind of fruit they make ice wine out of?" "Oh yeah, grapes!"

Saturday 2 August 2014

Sandy, date nite, and taste tester needed

1 I'm grateful for my friend Sandy. She fills the room with life and light and I love her positivism! Also she has a great guy who's fun and the sweetest little pup, Charlie.
2 Mr P takes me after work on a mini date. We sit out on a patio listening to rather loud music but that's just fine, because we sit closer than ever and before I realize it he's feeding me cake!
3 Caesar with celery and a hot pepper or caesar with pickled asparagus? Before I decide I think this needs further investigation! My sister is coming to visit for a few days, I think I'll ask her to help me in my research.

Friday 1 August 2014

it was a good day for everyone, on the team, and creativity

1. I'm grateful that I can share our view of the world with our wee ones. Here’s a synopsis of our day; we started off with a group nap, followed by peanut butter and honey sandwiches, time at the Peachland beach, swimming and throwing rocks, a quick trip to a farm to get some fresh veggies and then BBQ hot dogs and hamburgers, ice cream and gummy bears. Great day!
2 I am grateful that I have very supportive team players where I work. I love the diversity of personalities and I’m excited to learn new things about what I do and who I do it with.
3 I am grateful that I’m embracing a creative side in my life again. Life just keeps getting better when we make our own dreams and idea real.

Thursday 31 July 2014

thursday's thoughts

1. I'm grateful for a good nights sleep. Every now and then sleep is either elusive or broken up with waking up but when I get those deep restful sleeps my world just seems to run smoother.
2 I am grateful that our family is close by and that we are blessed to spend time with each other often and that we can share life with all its ups and downs.
3 I am grateful that I could come home after work, to watered plants, a clean kitchen and someone waiting to see me.

Wednesday 30 July 2014

cooler, wait a bit longer, and fed and done

1 It was smokin' hot out (36C) but the a/c was on full blast and we didn't overheat. It feels great getting into bed with just a sheet and the fan circulating the cool air.
2 The hummingbirds are gone for now. We're waiting a bit until we're sure that the honey bees have left and it's safe to put out the sugar water feeders. Patience birdies, patience.
3 I finally remembered to give the plants some Miracle Grow and now they're bursting out in buds. I've put a reminder on the garage door whiteboard which will keep us on track now! (hopefully)
4 I did it. First long shift alone, done!

Tuesday 29 July 2014

faves, grumpiness, and make a plan

1 it's always a good day when I spend time with some of my favourite people. Today we talk, laugh, feel a few sadder emotions and end with loving words and lots of hugs.
2 And then we have grumpy people. Shopping today it seemed that all the cashiers were either having a bad day or were just not happy. I tried a few times to make one or two of them smile but having no luck I decided to just say, "Thanks and bless you."
3 We are making a plan to have the kidlets for another sleepover this weekend again! So exciting to have them here, to snuggle with them and read stories before bed. Reminds me of doing the same with their Daddy and my heart swells. Mr P says this post sounds like the story of the Grinch! bah!
